Following Coup Rumors, Jammeh Boycotts ECOWAS Summit!!

…….Insecurity Grips Gambian Leader

Ghanaian Killings in The Gambia became an issue at the Summit

By Mamat Taal Banjul.

The conspicuous absence of Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh at the 33rd Ordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was noticeable, when African leaders arrived in Ouagadougou Friday. Due to security related problems facing the impoverished West African country, Jammeh had decided not to attend the said important Summit. His absence followed reports of an alleged foiled coup attempt, which led to the arrest of eight soldiers of The Gambian National Army.

Soldier-turned-presidential candidate: A comparison of flawed "democratic" transitions in Ghana and Gambia,

Unlike Ghana, Gambia enjoyed, since independence in 1965, continuous multiparty democracy and stability under the leadership of Sir Dawda Jawara. In July 1994, the armed forces overthrew post-colonial West Africa's longest serving head of state and continuously surviving multiparty democracy in Africa (Saine, 1996:97). An aborted coup in 1981 led by a civilian and some disgruntled elements of the Field Force shattered temporarily Gambia's image of stability and peace. The attempted coup brought to national attention the growing social and economic disparities between an emerging middle class and the mass of the population.

Yahya Jammeh discovers gold? The Mabuto Seseko gold where was it buried?

Yahya Jammeh discovers gold? The Mabuto Seseko gold where was it buried?

….Why Yahya Jammeh's gold discovery is a cosmetic story?

By Staff Writer Hammadi Maasinah.

Yahya Jammeh's stories are usually pasted on the board as unwise lies. That is why it is not so difficult for anyone to revisit, remember or be reminded about the man's record of blatant lies. Yahya is a liar but not a wise liar for that matter. Well in the mid nineties every Gambian particularly those in Europe still heard or saw the story of hoarded tons of gold presumably belonging to the Mobutu Seseko's cliche or cartel. These tons of gold were said to be received and buried by Jammeh in The Gambia. The video was aired on a German TV. That story was a wild one. Mobutu is dead, but Yahya Jammeh is still alive. Now all of a sudden lets once again listen to Yahya openly saying he is pleased to announce that gold was discovered in The Gambia? Why was this announcement not made public by the renowned and competent Gambian geologists? Why did Yahya suddenly eject any other secretary of state from that portfolio? Why did he take over this department that controls every aspect affecting mineral resources in the country? For Yahya Jammeh the government is a business entity that he can use, play business games by usurping power then make more money for his two kids and grand kids to inherit later on in life.

GAMBIA'S UNCERTAINTY

Gambia's President forcing Australia’s Carnegie Minerals out of country

Notorious for chasing away investors, Gambia’s latest victim is Australian mineral sands miner Carnegie Minerals whose operations were suspended this week.

WINDHOEK  -

Being dispossessed is turning into a common occurrence to those that dare venture into Gambia and, as African countries clamor for investors, the list of companies being forced to leave the West African state seems to be growing. Australian mineral sands miner, Carnegie Minerals PLC, did not expect this fate when it began developing a zircon/rutile mine in Gambia in 2002. But on Wednesday--as is fast becoming a norm in Gambia--the AIM-quoted company's promising project had slipped through its fingers. In a single day Carnegie Minerals lost nearly a quarter of its value to close at 3.88 pence after declining 22.50% when its Gambian operations were immediately suspended following a government directive. The group had received a letter from the Gambian government requesting it stop all mining operations in Gambia "pending receipt of certain information in relation to its minerals mined and laboratory results". The said report was contained in the publication of the mineweb online paper. The site can be accessed at http://www.mineweb.com  The paper quoted the Freedom Newspaper lead story on the expulsion of the UK based mining company from The Gambia.

Edward Singhatey Was Indeed Beaten Up- Says Horomsi

Horomsi: Following the attempt on his life, Edward Singhatey has taken some precautionary measures to save his life. He has quit moving by himself as he used to do. I have access to Edu’s house and anything I reported here is the truth and nothing but the truth. If Edu chose to keep his recent beatings secret, that’s up to him, but all I know is that he was mercilessly beaten by agents of The Gambian Government. Lets Edu prove me wrong, not self appointed PR firms. I know what I’m talking about. “Lumawah Dafmaleer.” Why should some people try to act as Edu’s spokesperson in the first place? Is Edu handicapped or death? What’s stopping him to refute the story reported by Horomsi? Look, “Gainyi” let us be real. Don’t rush on issues you have no clue about. Edu was beaten up, that is the real story. Horomsi is the least unapologetic. I’m not too good to apologize when necessary if the information I reported on Freedom was inaccurate. As far as my sources are concerned the said story was accurate and irrefutable.
