“Of Bafflegab and high-faluting terminology,” Declares Jainaba Njie

By Jainaba Njie, France

These past several days, we have witnessed a very disappointing show of the true nature of human intolerance and undemocratic principles from some of our Gambian folks upon whom the poor and the voiceless Gambians heavily depend. The series of essays - permit me to call it that - that have been published both on the online newspapers and forums is unfortunately a manifest of our creed of Gambian folk set to save the Gambians from the 'democracy' we live under.

Scales On Halake Again!!!!

Dear Highness Halake,

  At the risk of basking in your attention, I must add that African's tend to overlook that We British are " tribal  " to the core. It was more insulting to this Northern lad to be called a "Londoner" by Mr..... "kipper bang" than to say I was ignorant.I have no truck to being called ignorant. for such nobleness is not an affront to my class or dignity. But to be called a Londoner....Hells fury damn and blast !  {I am not abusive} is the greatest insult.   {laugh !!! }

London Letter: Scales’s mischievious “Hail Halake”, dog dinners, and cyber dog-fights.

Editor,

I have just come across your good friend Michael Scales “Hail Halake” remark and I must say I had a good laugh. It is good to see that the Englishman has a sense of humour! “Hail Scales”, I should say in return though it certainly does not have the same majestical ring as the imperial (Ethiopian) “Haile Halake”! But let me look at Mr. Scale’s “Hail Halake” in context – you can never trust these Englishmen as they talk with forked tongues!! Mr Scales wrote “Of course I am an impartial observer.. not like the one in Banjul .... but they say every dog has its day ..... and the other day the dog had its dinner. Hail Halake !!!” “I am an impartial observer” is actually correct – this particular Englishman does actually try to be objective and impartial (and non-abusive!!!) – hence sometimes he gets into trouble for saying good things about Jammeh where he deems such praise due.

Gambia At Risk Due To Climate Change- Scales

Dear Mr. Editor,

The Gambia is ranked 24th emerging nation most at risk due to climate change. It is commendable that with the assistance of E.U. funding The Gambia has sought to reinforce its coastal defences over many numbers of recent years. The dredging of its approach to Banjul docks accompanied by the reinforcing of the shore adjacent to the Banjul /Serre Kunda highway and along the reaches opposite The Corinthia Atlantic Hotel have been extensive and well planned and executed. However, the capital City of Banjul remains at severe risk due to expected rises in sea levels, due to the melting of the polar ice caps.

British National Advises Gambian Journalists!!!

By Nigel Keane, UK

Please spare some space in your publication to say a few words. My name is Nigel Keane, a British citizen. My wife and I love your country and visited a lot during Jawara and PPP days. We have taken a tourist trip back to Gambia only once since 1994 and we fear greatly because of how some Brits have been treated over there. I am very unhappy with the war of words between The Watchman and Mathew Jallow , Ebrima Sankareh and Yankuba Jambang. The Gambia Echo should be able to take criticism because whatever Watchman says is not as evil as what a Jammeh government might do them if they worked in Banjul. The Watchman is correct. They should realize that newspapers have lots of people saying things about the way they work and just make it better next time around. The Watchman’s passion for fairness and openness reminds me of my love for Manchester United and hate for Liverpool Football! I think it is very scary when Mr. Jallow uses his newspaper to throw personal insults especially with coordination of other colleagues in the business. We in Britain have what is called “stiff upper lip” which allows us to take things as they come. I have no  influence but it seems Jallow is too competitive and might be hard to work with. I like this in my football players not my newsmen! I am not surprised at all by Mr. Jallow saying Watchman lives in the UK. We produce the best African Englishmen sometimes don’t we?  We love Freedomnewspaper and pray for the day we can visit Gambia again. I hope Watchman is not tempted to reply again to any attacks. He sounds like a very intelligent chap.

The Rants and Raves of Watchman

By Mathew K Jallow
Like you, we were inundated with emails and phone calls, most displeased with the tone of what they determine a prolix spat, some glad that your underwhelming gladiator entry into this raucous needed to be stopped in its tracks, and still others questioning the very inutility of a spat that has served to distract from serious national matters. The dogfight is entertaining to some and almost boring to others, but even at the real risk of boring the audience with your spurious arguments, and discredited and tortured logic, I refuse to permit you the bragging rights of the last word. Yet despite your advantage of anonymity, you can never grind down the resolve for territorial protection in defense of pristine character and calm integrity. Your loud infatuation with hapless triviality and fixation with the absurd, calls into question your state of mind. The more someone reads your ranting, the more it has become evident that you are flustered by the incapacity to discern substance from hyperbole.

Jammeh’s Mother Asombi Bojang Likely To Die Of Diabetics Soon-Doctors Warn!!!!

President Yahya Jammeh’s mother is currently in a critical health condition, and may die anytime from now, doctors have warned.  The old woman who is struggling with the killer disease   diabetes, was recently flown to Belgium for treatment. But her ailing health condition has aggravated for the past couple of days, sources said. Health officials assigned to the President’s mother are very skeptical. They say they doubt  if the old woman would make it. “ She is in a bad health condition as we speak. I do not think she will make it. She is always complaining about heart related problems as well,” said our sources. President Jammeh recently announces that he was given the mandate to treat asthma, HIV/AIDS and diabetes. He is yet to rescue his dying mother who doctors say will soon pass away.
