Daily Observer Accuse of Underreporting Gambian issues! Has Jammeh Presented $10,000 and a car to Amie Khan?
Tuesday, November 13, 2007 (1565 reads)

By A Concerned Gambian.

Hello Mr Mbai.

I read your paper everyday and am very please about the unreported news you have been reporting from our beloved country. I came across the news below, but what the daily observer failed to report is that the lady, Amie Khan was given one of the Hyundai cars donated to The Gambia at the AU summit by the president and another $10,000(US DOLLARS) as a present. This was not reported, but many people knew about it in The Gambia. The lady confirmed this to me. Hope this could help clear certain issues. My apology if this piece troubles you. Thank you.

Editors note: Thanks for the information provided. We shall investigate and report to our readership. If you have any additional information to beef up the story, please feel free and send it. Thanks for the complements. We are doing our very best to get you the true picture of the Gambian story. We relied on sources like you to meet our goal. Thanks.

Lamin Waa Juwara Exposed!!

A WOLF FOR A LION

By David Sambou

I do not think Wa Jawara’s alliance with the
government he was relentlessly been chastising over
the last thirteen years should come as a surprise.
Throughout his political life, he’s been switching
allegiance the same way anybody changes attire
regularly. I think what would be surprising would have
been if he’d never joined the APRC.

Gambian Aids activists Want the Disgraced Minister Banned from The Medical Field

By Staff Writer Mamat Taal

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh has fired his Health Minister Tamsir Mbowe with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. In a statement issued today, the office of the President announces the removal of Dr.Mbowe, who until recently was Mr.Jammeh’s right hand in his ongoing aids cure discovery. The disgraced Minister received a terse letter before close of business Monday, informing him about his dismissal. Mr.Mbowe, a Russian trained Medical Doctor had been a staunch supporter of President Jammeh’s aids cure discovery . The sacked Minister had earlier claimed that the Gambian President was in the position to cure HIV/Aids. His sacking came as a big surprise to many here in Banjul. Reports have it that Mbowe had a strained relationship with the Gambian leader prior to his unceremonious removal.

Breaking News:The Big Interview:As US Observes Veterans Day, US Navy Sariang Marong Speaks!!
Sunday, November 11, 2007 (1308 reads)

“Pa Nderry if you ever asked me what’s the best thing I have ever done in my life I will respond by saying I served in the United States Navy. It has been a leverage make no mistake about it. Gambians needs to refuse to be swept away by the euphoria that people who joined the Armed Services are less fortunate or people with criminal records or even uneducated as some people may perceive. This is the most biased notion I could ever imagine as a decent human being just think about it for a second I can count on numerous well respected Veterans who have served and continue to be community leaders. My advice to high school graduates, College graduates if you so desire to join any branch of the Armed services please let no one convince you that it is a bad decision. In any venture commitment is the cornerstone for success that being said with all the benefits if you don’t make the best use of it, it is useless. The most that inspired me is the training, Job security, upward mobility, Educational benefits. The most of all Professional development training this shapes your character and competence which is significant in the real world most big fortune 500 companies invest heavily in this area in the Armed service it is readily available.” These were the exact words of Navy Petty First Class Sariang Marong. Mr.Marong was speaking in an Exclusive interview with the Freedom Newspaper. In a bid to salute Gambians serving the US Armed Forces, the Freedom Newspaper decided to feature Mr.Marong on Veterans Day. In this masterpiece interview, Mr.Marong talked about the significance of Veterans Day, his job as a Navy Recruiter, opportunities in the Navy among a host of other issues. Below is the full text of the interview. Please read on……..

Gambia and Post Independence: Are we better off????

Lamin A Tunkara

Raleigh, North Carolina

USA.

I cannot begin to remember how often I have asked myself what must be the hunch of our nation’s founders, looking at the current political and economical state of affairs.  Did the goals of gaining independence from our colonial masters in that we have economic and social justice realized?  Furthermore I asked of myself and others about the people at the center of the march for our independence and what have they done to make Gambia a better place or better yet, have we even came any closer to being better off?   As young as I am, and politically innocent as palpable, my grasp on Gambia’s politics, historically, does not go far enough.  My small mind can only recall on a very short period.  It was a brief but enlightening period during which so much had happened and so many involved changing the dynamics of our beloved nation.  The most notables of names and events are Jawara, Dibba, Darboe, Sabally, Jammeh, etc, the 1981 coup d’etat and the 1994 military takeover

Editorial:Is Waa Juwara A "Self Imposed Political Slave."?

Is Waa Juwara A "Self Imposed Political Slave."?

Lamin Waa Juwara's recent move to accept an invitation to work with the Jammeh Government was  greeted with mixed reaction across the country. Many believe that it was a political suicide on the side of Mr. Juwara to work with the Ruling APRC, while on the other hand, some argued that Juwara's  decision must be respected since the country's opposition had failed its people. Mr.Juwara has been known to be a fierce critic of President Jammeh over the years. His sudden change of heart towards the Jammeh leadership, of course would attract public concern. People have good reasons to speak their mind on  issues of such nature. Juwara too reserves  the God given right to exercise his freedom of association. Yes, it could be a wrong decision in the eyes of others, but factors leading to Juwara's move must be thoroughly scrutinized before passing our own judgments.
