A DEVIDED OPPOSITION WILL NOT UNSEAT PRESIDENT JAMMEH-Former IEC officer Sabally

A DEVIDED OPPOSITION WILL NOT UNSEAT PRESIDENT JAMMEH

BY LAMIN SABALLY-FORMER IEC OFFICER AND ALLGAMBIAN.NET STAFF WRITER

Looking at the results of the recently contested Kombo East by election as a litmus test for our divided opposition at which APRC Jung Conteh emerged the winner; a sober, comprehensive and uncontestable conclusion to reach is that a divided or fragmented opposition will not be able to unseat President Jammeh in the upcoming October Presidential poll. A comprehensively, combined votes cast for the opposition is more than total votes received by the APRC meaning with a united opposition, Kombo East would have decided in Opposition favor.

STATEMENT BY THE NADD FLAG BEARER ON THE KOMBO EAST BY ELECTIONS!!!

STATEMENT BY THE NADD FLAG BEARER

ON THE KOMBO EAST BY ELECTIONS

VICTORY FOR THE PEOPLE AND A DEFEAT FOR

OPPOSITION AND RULING PARTY

The Kombo East By election is now history. History indeed is the teacher of the wise. Our duty now is to draw the relevant lessons from the experience.

First and foremost, the results of the election are instructive. The APRC has 3665 votes. The combined opposition has 3923 votes. This means that the opposition is ahead in the counting of the total votes cast in all the by-elections. This is the first point to note. Why should it be noted? The answer is simple. When we met to review the basis for establishing an alliance we all took note of the fact that the executive worked for an amendment of the constitution to remove the provision providing for a second round of voting so that the APRC could benefit from the division of the opposition.

The results of the Kombo East by-election have again confirmed the lessons we had drawn before forming NADD.

 baba jobe.jpgBy: A  Concerned Gambian

I spoke with Pa Nderry soon after our lengthy phone conservation this morning, and he seems to appreciate very much the premise of our conversation .Infact, while I was on the phone with him , he accessed Global Witness on the "Net" and found some pertinent information that mentioned Baba Jobe and Gambia. Pa Nderry's humility, as a much younger brother humbles me, and I will reciprocate to him with the same ador.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh' Screening in The Gambia-NIA trying hard to catch our sources!

isatounjie.jpgThe Screening in Banjul.....

A couple of days back we wrote something on GAMWORKS,later on President Jammeh himself on line defending GAMWORKs with words like cumulative figures. This is not what is expected of a serious government. Without any doubt another punch came from what I send in towards President Jammeh's defense post. At the end what happened? Nothing is forthcoming from the state house.

Our Private Lives- Pa Nderry an observation please

Pa Nderry,

I am a visitor to your site. Congrats for setting up the online news service. I enjoy a lot going through it .However what is disturbing to me is that people's private lives are constantly dragged into what seems to have no links with issues that are relevant to national development. My first example is mentioning who had a child with tamsir jassey and the second is the said report on Ambassador Crispin Johnson. I don’t know him but I think it is unfair to disclose his personal life who he is living with, or who he sleeps with, excuse my bluntness.

The results of the last Kombo East by- elections in The Gambia clearly sent a signal manifesting another rift in the political chemistry of the tiny West African state. To all major global political analysts, the election has not only manifested the tarnishing image of the ruling APRC, but also an increasing political awareness that is becoming a catalyst for change in The Gambia. On the other hand it has served as a litmus test and a lesson for the opposition to tie strings together in the democratic combat to end perpetuating self-rule.

Freedom Newspaper Mail Bag:What our readers say today!!!

By Jabou Joh

Pa Nderry,

I have spoken out against the APRC regime ever since they started killing Gambians and obliterating our constitution and with it our human rights. My family respects my views on this issue, and I will continue to speak out against the regime so long as they are there and engaged in the atrocities against our people that they are engaged in. I have also been an ardent defender of free speech. However, I would like to ask you and "Bulfaleh" what relaying my sister's past personal life in cyber space and in your paper has to do with the struggle? What exactly is being implied by talking about who my sister had a child with years ago and what that implies? Does "Bulfaleh" have insight into what my sister thinks of or feels about someone who she happened to have been married to years ago?

lt__jammeh.jpgBreaking News: IMF expresses concern over Gambia’s move to host AU Summit-Citing the “ailing Economy and lack of funds”

                   By: An Editor

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expressing concern over the move taken by The Gambian government to host the much talked about African Union Summit, citing the country’s ailing economy and lack of sufficient budget to host the AU Banjul forum. The Firm in a statement forwarded to the Freedom Newspaper says maintaining fiscal discipline in 2006, was going to pose a challenge to The Gambian authorities, adding that the funding of the October elections and the AU Summit would have some devastating economic effects on our weak economy. “Maintaining fiscal discipline in 2006 is going to pose a challenge to the authorities. Two major events—the hosting of an AU summit and general elections—could put the budget under stress. The authorities assured the mission that they would do their best to stay within budget for the two events, and were optimistic about the prospects for obtaining external assistance to supplement the country’s own resources.” said the IMF statement.

Wednesday, May 17, 2006 (739 reads)

                     By: Staff Writer

The police top brass in Banjul were greeted with rude shock on Monday, when the Force’s Deputy Inspector General of police Abou Njie, tendered his resignation letter. Deputy IGP Njie, has resigned with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper was informed. The police chief is yet to receive an acknowledgement from The Gambian authorities on his sudden stepping down from the force which is faced by leadership struggle and unfinished internal bickering. Sources say Mr.Njie’s resignation was as a result of an alleged acrimonious relationship between him and IGP Ousman Sonko, whose competence is being questioned within the rank and file of the force. Sonko according to sources lacked knowledge about basic police duties and never wanted to listen or buy the ideas of the old guards within the force.
