Horomsi: Has Gamtel and Quantum Net blocked Freedom Newspaper? Wednesday, June 07, 2006 (912 reads)
Horomsi: Has Gamtel and Quantum Net blocked Freedom Newspaper?
Horomis: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,….. What are you laughing Horomosi? Well, I learned that Yahya Jammeh has gone mad. That he ordered GAMTEL, the country’s main telecommunication and QUANTUMNET, a local internet serve provider to help block the Freedom Newspaper, from being accessed in The Gambia. Omar Ndow and Muhammed Jah had been brain storming on the issue. Despite being told that such a move will give bad international publicity for his battered government, Jilanka insists that Ndow and Jah should help him to stop this paper being read in the country. Jilanka feels that Freedom can bring his government down sooner or later as many people in the country go by what Freedom reports. That work is hardly done these days in government offices, as workers visit Freedom each morning and discussed the paper’s content. To Jammeh, Freedom is out to delegitimise him and his government.

Nadd supporters in Minnesota demanded a unified coalition; OJ Oks table-talk. Wednesday, June 07, 2006 (529 reads)

Nadd supporters in Minnesota demanded a unified coalition; OJ Oks table-talk.
Nadd supporters and pro democracy activists converged in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Saturday June 3rd 2006, welcoming OJ, of Nadd and demanded a unified coalition among the divided opposition. OJ, current executive member for Nadd and former Agricultural minister in the then PPP regime spoke at length varying issues, ranging from the divided opposition, violations of human rights, and the rights of Gambians to be in charge of their destiny and country. Almost all the concerns raised at the rally were to do with the way front for a unified coalition, and floor members were so pushy and demanding for the two coalitions to come together at once.

I hail moves taken by the Minnesota Local Chapter, STGDP, for being good ambassadors of the Gambia in the United States-OJ

Editorial-Is Jammeh a cannibal or a witch?Torture and killing reports are very disturbing!!! Wednesday, June 07, 2006 (855 reads)
EDITORIAL
Gambia’s iron hand dictator President Yahya Jammeh could be best described as a cannibal. While there is no evidence to suggest that Jammeh eats human flesh, what is clear is that he is blood thirsty. He enjoys killing, torturing and maiming Gambians with impunity. Looking at the horrific pictures portraying tortured Gambian journalists, recently published by the Paris based Reporters Without Borders, 3 one will begin to ask if Jammeh is not indeed a witch. His actions and personal comportment speak volumes. Africa is today witnessing another Idi Amen Dada. Jammeh shares the same characteristics with the great Idi Amen.

Dr. Saja Taal and the "VALUE" of Western Education! Wednesday, June 07, 2006 (535 reads)
By Alhagie (Emman) Bah
Dr. Saja Taal and the "VALUE" of Western Education. Dear Editor, The recent decision by the pro-Government Daily Observer Newspaper to publish the list of the Freedom Newspaper's online subscribers and the alleged sifting of allegiance of the Founding Editor Pa Nderry Mbai, is a cause for concern and refection below: First, the Daily Observer publish the information without "researching" it. This is the same accusation the Gambia Government levels against journalists who refuse to betray the "sources" of their sensitive news/ reports! Second, the Daily Observer is currently headed by "Dr." Saja Taal, a PhD Holder for that matter!

Editorial-Living Under Jammeh's Shadow. Tuesday, June 06, 2006 (844 reads)
EDITORIAL
When reporter Omar Bah of The Daily Observer went underground for several days before surfacing in Dakar, Senegal, the relief of his safety generated more questions than answers. No one has ever been pursued and hunted for reading a newspaper in The Gambia; well until now. The extended episode of the past weeks relating to freedomnewspaper readers list, has raised our political stakes to a new level. Until now, the government had only brought it wrapth to bear on the media practitioners, but today the realities have changed. The intimidation, arrests, and detentions of our folks is tantamount to censorship, and is therefore the logical beginning of this regimes efforts to control our minds and thought processes.
