Those who write, those who despise, those who criticise, those who realise-there are mice too Saturday, September 08, 2007 (230 reads)
By Hammadi in Maasinah.
First let me please reiterate one thing here for all and sundry to understand. The main duty towards The Gambia as a nation thats submerged in tears is not personal,it is national. There are many thorny petals on this dusty tree called APRC development projects There is still so much to be desired in this small country called The Gambia. I cannot understand it when I see people of high caliber(?) trying to equate decent democracies with Yahya Jammeh's??? Camon! stop that trend.Stop rolling down the cliff only because you have a bowl of 'benachin' waiting for you because you made chicken change calling that successful "Investment". I would have been the first to jump on on Michael Scales if he was behaving too "whitish" before us especially as a son of a former coloniser.

Michael Scales Reacts!! Saturday, September 08, 2007 (235 reads)
mitage Gambia
Dear Mr.Editor,
In brief,....because i dont want to hog your limelight too often. Your response, to Mr Armitage Gambia....Again causes me some embarresment.Dont ever forget ,that im the big bad whiteman that Africans { not all } love to hate.Im pleased about this because i am giving some relief to there understandable frustrations. Most intelligent gambians { and there are many} realise that i am not the enemy. The enemy lies within. The gentleman speaks of Patriotism.....In this regard .i would suggest....its term is being abused.I have always thought that Patriotism is the final refuge of a scoundrel.I am very much aware of the personal danger and sacrifice that you and other freedom Journalists are making. In fact i would agree that your lives are always in danger, proberbly for the duration of your lifetime. You are aware of the recent death threats that i and my family are living with daily, simply because i support freedom of speach and the expression of this, through your honerable newspaper. The allegation of bribery...in these circumstances...shows the true bankruptcy of the gentlemans motivation.I would respectfully suggest ,that the integrity of journalists from freedom newspaper, is worth much more than a few quid , from my back pocket.AS you always advise me........Lets move on and serve the ever growing loyal support of this newspaper.
I remain ever faithful ..........Michael.

The Quack In Gambia:African Despot 'Cures' AIDS Friday, September 07, 2007 (651 reads)
By Marco Evers
The president of Gambia is causing a stir with his claim to be able to cure AIDS. Hardly anyone in the country dares challenge him and, unfortunately, many actually believe him. It's hard to make a name for yourself as a tyrant in Africa; the standards are pretty high. Jean Bédel Bokassa of the Central African Republic, believing himself to be the thirteenth apostle, had himself crowned emperor and is said to have enjoyed the occasional meal of human flesh. In Congo, the kleptocrat Mobutu Sese Seko built an airstrip for his chartered Concorde jets in the middle of the rain forest. Now, the president of the West African state of Gambia is doing his best to add his name to the list.

Breaking News:Taipei/Africa Summit:Gambian President Cancels Trip for Security Reasons-Protocol officer reveals Thursday, September 06, 2007 (1249 reads)
By Staff Writer Karafa Badjie, Banjul
Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh is reported to have asked the country’s Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy to represent him at the Taiwan/Africa Summit scheduled for September 9Th to the 11 according to official sources at the President office in Banjul. The President who is increasingly worried about the loyalty of the army was reported to have contemplated attending the Taiwanese Summit, but only to be briefed about the security implications of attending the said Summit. Gripped by insecurity and crisis of confidence, the Gambian leader has earlier promised the Taiwanese authorities about his Government’s commitment to grace the said occasion. A member of the President’s protocol team told the Freedom Newspaper that the Vice President Isatou Njie-Saidy was asked to step in for the President. “ If only HE changes his mind, he was advised not to attend the Taiwanese Summit. Attending the Summit means, he is doing it at his own risk. The VP was delegated to attend. These soldiers are not trustable. What they say and what they dBo is totally different. I can confirm to you that HE is not attending the Taiwanese Summit. This information was disclosed to us last night.” said a member of Jammeh’s protocol team.

Who Pays the ferryman-Michael Scales Wednesday, September 05, 2007 (556 reads)
Dear Mr.Editor,
It is right that you raise awareness of impending melt down of the Gambias economy. It is also right to ask ,who will pick up the pieces of economic chaos and collapse.? In the short term, the ultimate authority and rescue will fall to the International community through direct and indirect taxation, the International Monetry Fund and the investors at The World Bank. In the longterm...those who will pay the price ..will be the children of The Gambia and the next generation .

Breaking News:Gambia to embark on Recession due to economic crisis! Major job cuts ahead Tuesday, September 04, 2007 (1285 reads)
Following Major Economic Collapse-Gambia To Go On Recession Soon-Central Bank Officials Unveil!!
Government to Embark on Job cuts due to lack of funds to pay salaries
"Central Bank officials say the nation's External Reserves are in the Reds."
“ From January to date, we have witnessed a sharp decline on our import cover. Few businesses are able to import goods into this country. To some extent, this had affected The Gambia Ports Authority Economic Quota for this year. The GPA fails to meet its target this year. The Ports might as well be privatized. The Government cannot sustain the GPA in the absence of serious economic activities. Almost, all the parastatals failed to meet their Quota this year. This problem is beyond the control of the Central Bank. We are talking about an economic recess in months to come. Many Civil Servants will likely to loose their jobs. If there is no salaries how can you work? The privatization of these parastatals is just the beginning. Next, is recession. The Bank authorities should be honest enough and tell The Gambian people the true story. There is no money in this country.” Posited the Central Bank official who works at the Bank’s Research Centre.

.jpg) Time is fast running out with the administration of President Jammeh, as well placed sources close to the Central Bank of The Gambia say the nation’s external reserves “are on the brink of total collapse” amidst major economic downturn gripping the impoverished West African country. Bank officials who spoke to the Freedom Newspaper on conditions of strict anonymity warned about a major economic recession in months ahead. These officials who are increasingly worried about the country’s economic and political climate further warned that if the current ailing economic indications persist, salaries for Civil Servants cannot be guaranteed. The Bank’s external reserves are said to be in the reds, coupled with growing inflation, with little or no serious investors targeting the former British colony.
