Severe Economic Hardship Is Driving Hundreds Of Gambians Hungry!!

Market Women Lament  Hikes on Commodity Prices

Businessmen Blame The Problem to the value of the Dalasi

By Staff Writer Francis Jones, Banjul.

Severe economic hardship is driving hundreds of Gambians hungry, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Despite the Government's claims  of economic growth, cost of living here is getting higher by the day. During a visit to the busy Serre-Kunda Market today, signs of frustration and hunger could be visible on the faces of poverty stricken Gambians. A good number of shoppers lamented about the high cost of living in the country. Rice,  which is the country's main staple food is out of reach. Very few people can afford the cost for a bag of rice. It's between D500 and D600 Dalasis, which is equivalent to  the  salary of some  workers here. Prices for cooking oil, meat, sugar and other cooking utensils have gone up. There is no indication in the short term that these prices might come down. Local businesses blamed the price hikes to world market prices among other things.

By  Ba Tambadou
Sticklers F.C.

When i saw Pa Louis Thomasi's tribute to Moses Sarr on some online newpapers yesterday, i was totally shocked with disbelief. Moses Sarr? Zico? Dead? I was too shocked to shed a tear but when i woke up this morning and i realised that Zico has really gone forever, i couldn't help but shed a lot of tears for a dear friend, a brother, and undoubtedly, the best football player i have ever shared the football field with.

My Daily Observer Diary: Sheriff Bojang Senior Exposed!!

Bojang Faxed Crude Oil Story To The State House

As promised earlier, the Freedom Newspaper had a special dossier on the sacked Observer Managing Director Sheriff Bojang, which we would like to share with our esteemed readers. Mr.Bojang was not only a double agent for the Gambian Government, but was also hell bent on undermining the work of local journalists in the impoverished West African country. He was also openly undermining the Gambian opposition. If opposition leader Ousainou Darboe and his supporters are reading us at this hour, we have an important piece of information to share with you today. This information had to do with the 1996 Abacha crude oil revelation, which was  made by Lawyer Darboe. Thanks to Mr.Darboe and his opposition colleagues, Gambians were able to know how this corrupt and despotic administration, under the leadership of President  Jammeh squandered the proceeds derived from the Abacha crude oil gift to the  tiny nation of  The Gambia.
