Lawyer Mariam Jack Denton tortured to coma? The APRC trying to "force" her to join sinking party!! Monday, June 05, 2006 (1075 reads)
There are mixed reports regarding the fate of veteran and fearless Gambian lawyer Mariam Denton. While some reports say she was tortured to coma by her captives, other reports speak of ongoing negotiations to get her join the APRC sinking boat. Iron lady madam Jack Denton will never, never, ever join Jammeh's "finished government." If their intention is to force her to join their party, they will woefully failed. I know Ms. Jack at a personal level. She is not cheap at all like Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay, Yankuba Touray and Omar Fye. This woman worth her salt. She is one of those Gambian women ready to take on the Jammeh dictatorship come what may.

Letter to President Jammeh and my fellow Gambians-A reader Monday, June 05, 2006 (672 reads)
By Chat boy Minnesota
I sympathize a lot with the Gambian people to the extent that I consider Gambia as my second home. Obviously, the events that are taking place in the Gambia are sad if not pathetic. I remember about 5 years back the Gambia was a nice place to live with the economy doing fairly well. Although initially I liked Jammeh just like many other Gambians, as time went on I realize that Jammeh was incapable of leading the smiling coast of West Africa.

Gambians are helping Jammeh to kill our brothers and sisters-says ex-soldier Monday, June 05, 2006 (827 reads)
By WANDIFFA DAFFEH
I am Gambian currently living in the United Kingdom. I was a military officer under the dictator, Jammeh. I decided to quit when I realized that he was not there for the interest of the Gambian people, but his own interest. However, the sad thing is that some selfish Gambians are helping Jammeh to kill our brothers and sisters, seize our God given rights and rob our national coffers. This is pathetic, and I think it should be the focus of every well-meaning Gambian to participate physically and mentally to rescue our beloved country. We have had enough of this dictator.

However, the sad thing is that some selfish Gambians are helping Jammeh to kill our brothers and sisters.

As a reminder, I would like to note that I was involved in the Freedom Newspaper affair and that, in reaction, I wrote two pieces captioned “Rebuttal” and “My Visit to the Gambia High Commission in London”, both of which I sent to Gambian newspapers for publication on Sunday 28th May 2006 and Tuesday 30th May 2006, respectively. I judge it fitting to single out the Daily Observer newspaper for mention in this regard, for it is this very paper that published the names and contact details of the subscribers of the Freedom Newspaper branding them as informants of Pa Nderry Mbai against the Gambia Government, despite his flat, categorical denial of the claim and furious, frenetic threats to sue them before the publication of the nocuous, deleterious allegation.

State of fear and its effect for political and development in The Gambia Monday, June 05, 2006 (451 reads)
State of fear and its effect for political change and development in The Gambia. By: - Abdoukarim Sanneh Final year Student The University of Bolton.
Many contributors in the cyber discussion groups on Gambia and related matters have commented that any effective political change to unseat Yahya Jammeh have to within. Many a time I wander whether our people are prepared to arrest the present madness? I cannot imagine how many years it will take to effect such a change with disunited and a fragile opposition, and also with a population in a state of fear to challenge dictator of Kanillai with mass action. There is no easy walk to freedom and it will be illusive to think that there will be free and fair election come October 2006 presidential and parliamentary election. Yahya Jammeh have entrench himself into power and to effect any change our people have to prepared for the worst case scenario if the election is rig.

I cannot imagine how many years it will take to effect such a change with disunited and a fragile opposition, and also with a population in a state of fear to challenge dictator of Kanillai.

Good Morning, Mr.President, the Burufut villa sale-Is Yankuba Touray behind the killing of Deyda? Sunday, June 04, 2006 (1384 reads)

Touray named in
Deyda's death
Good Morning Mr. President,
We are disturbed by news reports that you are on the verge of purchasing the 52 Presidential villas in Brufut. Thanks to our usual dependable and reliable sources at the State House, we were able to pick up the story. That you have recruited an “uncover front” to buy the villas on your behalf. These are disturbing reports so to speak. It is unfair for you to mortgage our country over night. Your day light robbery of our national coffers should end in the interest of our dear country.

The IMF and other donor agencies should answer to our call to declare sanctions against your repressive and failed government.

HACKTIVISM: Ebou Jallow
By Jabou Joh
Unauthorized access into any individual or company's data, unlawfully securing that data, and falsely impersonating them in disseminating that data is not something that the authorities in this country take lightly and I agree that this matter should be pursued to the fullest as it is a crime against the Freedom newspaper but it is also a war that is launched against ordinary Gambians' rights to freedom of access to information.
The illegal hacking of the Freedom Newspaper is the latest version in that campaign to curtail access to information but it is a loosing battle they are fighting and they know it well.
