That Nuisance will not Stall us-Commentary Monday, August 14, 2006 (344 reads)

That Nuisance will not Stall us
Mr Editor
Once again Halifa has exhibited his arrogance by completely ruling out
party led Alliance even though it is crystal clear to everyone that the
NADD formula is simply unworkable. His claim that a propose
UDP/NRP/NADD Alliance would be illegal is not only wrong but absolutely
silly. There is no clause or provision in the constitution that
prohibits the creation of Alliances. What is barred is individual MP
membership of two or more parties.

TALE OF TWO CITIES: BANJUL AND KANILAI
This is not about
Charles Dickens book, it’s about the Gambia. Gambisara will instead relate the major story about Edmond Dante’s to events in Banjul
and then attempt to create a personal way forward. The Count of Monte
Cristo is a story about a sailor, Edmond Dante’s, who was betrayed
during the prime of his life and career by the jealousy of his friends.
His shipmate, Danglars, coveted his designation as the captain of the
mighty Pharon. Ferdinand Mondego wished to wed his Mercedes, who was a
affiance to Edmond.

By Lamin Darboe
Dear editor,
Please allow me a space in your paper to respond to Mr
Kabafu's article, entitled " Suwukuta with Eddy. Is lawyer Darboe
serious for real? Can darboe be trusted by Gambian voters?.First of all, I agree with my dear friend that change
is long overdue in our beloved motherland. Yahya Jammeh is nothing but
a mistake for Gambia and the entire civilized world. Even in our
wildest dreams, nobody could imagine what our folks have been through
for the last twelve years under Dictator Jammeh.

Are the Upcoming in Elections in Gambia being overlooked by the West? Sunday, August 13, 2006 (370 reads)
Are the Upcoming in Elections in Gambia being overlooked by the West?
By Scott A. Morgan,Virginia, Human Rights and US policy in Africa Commentator
 The World watched with both
wonder and scrutiny as the Democratic Republic of the Congo had a fully contested election with multi-party
candidates.Although there were monitors from both the UN and Europe there were scattered reports of violence
but there is nothing more inspiring than watching the spirit of
Democracy in Action. So what should the Major
Democratic Powers of the West and the peers of Gambia do after it holds
Presidential Elections on September 28th?
Historcally the country has been one of the most stable countries in
West Africa since it gained Independence. A
Military coup in 1994 is the only blight on its resume. The leader of
that action is the Incumbant seeking reelection for a third term as
that country's President.

Horomsi:Saihou Sabally spotted in Banjul? NIA officers at the airport changed their mind to arrest him!!! Sunday, August 13, 2006 (596 reads)
Horomsi:Saihou Sabally spotted in Banjul? NIA officers at the airport changed their mind to arrest him!!! Sabally the fake politician that never was-The PPP old guards are responsible for Gambia's political crisis today. Waa Juwara is now vindicated about what he said about Saihou Sabally and the PPP
Horomsi:Gambia's
Vice President in the First Republic Saihou Sabally was Gambia's
guest, when the plane he was traveling with made an emergency landing
at the Banjul International airport. Mr.Sabally who left UK for Dakar
recently later found himself in Banjul, a country he abandoned for the
past 12 years in fear of political persecution. As we piece this write up together, Saihou Sabally is said to be in the UK again. Saihou was one of those
PPP officials who fled Banjul on board a US Navy Ship when former army
officers led by then Lieutenant Yahya Jammeh toppled the democratically
elected government of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara. As usual NIA agents
walked into the aircraft only to see the unexpected guest. Saihou who
appeared focused was patiently seated in the aircraft. Horomsi gathered
that the NIA were told by local airline agents that passengers on
board the said flight including Saihou Sabally were not destined to
land in the Gambia and should not be asked to leave the aircraft. After
sometime the said flight left Banjul for Dakar. Saihou never disembark
from the flight. Horomsi gathered that the NIA at the airport were
debating among themselves as to what line of action they should take.
Detaining Sabally was going to be viewed as an abduction. Sabally never
booked to travel to Banjul anyway. He unexpectedly found himself in a
country he dared not to step his foot. Jammeh and his killers over the
years had been trailing him. They tried in many ways to get the man to
return home in the name of so called amnesty they extended to Jawara,
but Saihou Sabally refused. The situation was beyond his control.

NADD: The End of Secret Diplomacy Sunday, August 13, 2006 (254 reads)
NADD: The End of Secret Diplomacy
Foday Samateh
State and sub-state actors share a multiplicity of overlapping
interests on a wide range of common issues covering national,
bilateral, and multilateral concerns. That reality puts diplomacy
necessarily among the first order of business of governments.
But diplomacy, while a fact of governance, is not an end in itself. It
is a means, the outcome of which depends on the approach. From the
vertical measure of time to the horizontal experience across nations,
the lesson is: governments that use diplomacy responsibly and
legitimately find it an invaluable asset for securing national
interests and at the same time strengthening democracy. The converse is
also true: governments that use diplomacy recklessly or deceptively
incur in it a costly liability at the expense of the long term
interests of their respective nations.

Suwokuta with Eddy-Is Lawyer serious for real? Can Darboe be trusted by Gambian voters?
Mr.
Darboe, you have run against Yaya Jammeh on two Occasions and lost. Why
not put aside your power greed and give the Gambian people the
opportunity to be able to change the arrogant leadership in our country today. By you stepping aside on this election for the good of the country. Why not make a
commitment to a larger cause: To help preserving the Gambian Dream
... Restoring the hopes of the forgotten Poor and middle class... by
reclaiming the future for our children. Please Darboe do this for the
sake of your children, my children and Gambia's future generation. We
need leaders that will refuse to be part of a generation that help to
reelect an Administration that celebrates the death of School
childrens and human rights abuses.

Freedom Newspaper Mail Bag:What our readers say today!!! Sunday, August 13, 2006 (250 reads)
By Yero Jallow (Dalton)
THE SINTET BOYS, AN UGLY MISNOMER.
At
a time when history is recording, it is both a need and a necessity to
put the records in their correct order. How I wish I don't have to
reply to this one, but I cannot help it. My love for my decent village,
Sintet, is more than just opening my eyes to see it being burnt into
flames.The
story authored by Bulfaleh, contributor to the Freedom titled "The
Sintet group Kills for President Jammeh." is so ugly a heading and a
true misnomer. Bulfaleh ran out of headlines, and now he crowns the
whole of Sintet people as killers, the very ugly headline that is
giving me sleepless nights for two consecutive days. To add flames to
existing fire, Binneh Minteh, former Army lieutenant in the Jammeh
regime is painting the picture more, thus quote "
It is also widely belief
that most of the torture and atrocities committed against Gambian
citizens are done so by this very foreign people in collaboration with
the "SINTET BOYS" as rightly claimed by the freedom newspaper editor.
Editors
note: Yero Jallow Gainoko Pullo, hold your horse brother man. Bulfaaleh
never accuses you as a person or Sintet residents as evil. He named
Bajinka, Lang Tombong Tamba and others as those under Jammeh's payroll
for dirty games. If only you mean to tell us that you served the state
guards before coming to America? I doubt it very much. Go back and read
Bufaaleh's piece thoroughly. I think you Yero Jallow said worse things
than what Bufaaleh alluded to against Jammeh's hit men. We urge you to
read the said piece with an open mind. We all know that you and the
people of Sinteh are too civilized to be part of such nasty political
games. But we cannot help it out, Lang Tombong Tamba was named as one
of those who were part of the Sinteh gang. We want to clarify once again that
the said piece was written by columnist Bufaaleh and not the editors
of Freedom. Thank you and have a good Sunday morning.

Breaking News:Early Election violence in The Gambia-UDP/NRP Alliance Youth Team Ambushed Saturday, August 12, 2006 (560 reads)
UDP/NRP Alliance Youth Team Ambushed:
As
the Presidential Election Campaign has kicks off, the United Democratic
Party / National Reconciliation Party (UDP/NRP) Youth wing is engaged
on a nation wide grass roots campaign to give support to the five
Divisional campaign teams comprising of Area Chairmen, Area Chairwomen,
and Divisional youth movements on their various localities. Unfortunately, today Saturday, August 12, 2006,
they were coming from the Niaminas Constituencies and entering the
Fulladus Constituencies when they got ambushed by some (APRC) thugs.
These thugs were in an unnumbered green pick-up truck and one Mr.
Manlafi, an ex-presidential guard pulled an AK 47 rifle and threatens
to shoot at any body who utter a word about President Jammeh. Some
youths rushed to grab his gun and in an attempt to burn the vehicle
they rushed away. Luckily, Manlafi was identified by some members of the (UDP/NRP) Youth team. Manlafi statement were recorded and the matter was
reported to the Brikamaba Police Station who declined to take the complain.

The
Youth team told the Brikamaba police that they will neither allow their
Rights to be muzzled nor allow negotiating their Rights in the
legitimate exercise of their political and constitutional Rights. This
Election is the final Election with Jammeh they said.
On Monday, look for the Press Release from the UDP/ NRP Alliance Bureau in Banjul.
Thank You.
Saihou
