Breaking News:Kukoi Sambang breaks the silence-Calling for inter-party dialogue to rescue"sinking"Gambia!! Monday, May 15, 2006 (909 reads)

Jammeh will soon go!!!
Following the opposition Kombo East by election defeat Kukoi Samba Sanyang, the mastermind of the 1981, abortive coup called for inter party dialogue in a bid to rescue “sinking Gambia” from Jammeh’s repressive and totalitarian rule. Kukoi who emailed the Freedom Newspaper from an undisclosed location called on opposition parties and freedom fighters to put all hands on deck to rescue The Gambia come what may. " I strongly believe that instead of competing against each other, sabotage and wishful thinking Gambian freedom fighters must increasingly try to learn from each other, by using the vehicle of inter-political dialogue to explore the belief systems of other fellow Gambia politicians.Beyond the excitement of discovering common ground with people of radically different political backgrounds and histories, inter-political dialogue will also bring about “mutual transformations” as we all will deepen and reform our own political practice."said Kukoi in a letter sent to the Freedom Newspaper. Below is the unedited letter of Mr. Sanyang. Please read on....

Yahya Jammeh Instituionalised Corruption and Incompetence
By: Baati Jollof
" I have enough wealth to take care of not only me, but even my great grand children". These were Yahya Jammeh's very own words some few years ago, during an interview on GRTS (the television). It is really amazing to hear these words from Yahya Jammeh, when we are very much aware that Jammeh had not inherited any wealth; prior to 1994, Jammeh has no saving account in any bank in the Gambia, talkless of a foreign account; it is on record that Lt. Yahya Jammeh took an overdraft from the continent bank in June 1994. How then did Jammeh made his "wealth"?

It is now clear that The Gambian voters are not ready for change of political leadership. The Kombo East by election defeat is a clear indication that our people are still lacking behind when it comes to political change. Our disintegrated opposition are partly responsible for the current predicament Gambians are exposed to today. Under the current political atmosphere the opposition cannot win incumbent President Jammeh and his failed APRC.

Editorial:Lessons From Pirang-Editor Mathew Jallow closely examines the oppositon defeat!!! Sunday, May 14, 2006 (593 reads)
EDITORIAL
Around the world, Gambians of every political stripe are taking note of the turn of events in the just concluded Kombo East by-elections. Following the narrow loss by the opposition, emotions are running high, and ranging from utter dismay to sheer disbelief. Until yesterday, all indications were that a win by the opposition UDP/NRP candidate, Momodou Lamin Darboe, was a foregone conclusion. Tonight, many of us will go to bed to spend a sleepless night asking ourselves the hard questions; what went wrong, and how could this happen? Evidently, there is no one simple answer to a complex problem, but even as many different variables have come into play here, there are two over-riding issues that seem to influence the outcome of the elections.
Jammeh's atrocious human rights record alone is sufficient grounds to vote him out of office in a bleep.

Freedom Newspaper Mail Bag:Reader Alhagie Bah's views on today's by elections!!! Sunday, May 14, 2006 (469 reads)
By:Alhagie Bah
Dear Editor,
The opposition's defeat in this by-election is noting to wonder about. The opposition parties are responsible for engineering their own downfall through the NADD vs. UDP/NRP greedy factions. DIVIDED oppositions are "good news" for current governments as they safely capitalise on the "divide and rule" system. I do not see the opposition taking over from Jammeh come October 2006 as the oppositions have made "false starts!" I am sorry but I still believe Jammeh can only LEAVE State House via another MILITARY COUP or through a "natural" death like ABACHA and EYADEMA, King Hassan of Morocco or Mobutu of ex-Zaire.

The UDP did performed well by capturing almost all the polling stations, but failed to make it at Farabantang and Pirang. These two wards commands a lot of voters. The APRC are meanwhile jubilating their victory.

Why President Jammeh,Kaba Bajo,Isatou Njie Saidy,Sheikh Tijan Hydara and Yankuba Touray are reacting to what the freedomnewspaper reports?
There is no doubt in every Gambians mind that the government of the day is so pissed off with what papers like Pa Nderry's are writing on their performance. A reliable sources revealed that the government through the NIA is so worried about these negative reports. This source told me to watch out for President Jammeh's reaction on the story we wrote about GAMWORKS. This source was absolutely right.
