Following the opposition Kombo East by election defeat Kukoi Samba Sanyang, the mastermind of the 1981, abortive coup called for inter party dialogue in a bid to rescue “sinking Gambia” from Jammeh’s repressive and totalitarian rule. Kukoi who emailed the Freedom Newspaper from an undisclosed location called on opposition parties and freedom fighters to put all hands on deck to rescue The Gambia come what may. "I strongly believe that instead of competing against each other, sabotage and wishful thinking Gambian freedom fighters must increasingly try to learn from each other, by using the vehicle of inter-political dialogue to explore the belief systems of other fellow Gambia politicians.Beyond the excitement of discovering common ground with people of radically different political backgrounds and histories, inter-political dialogue will also bring about “mutual transformations” as we all will deepen and reform our own political practice."said Kukoi in a letter sent to the Freedom Newspaper. It is really amazing to hear these words from Yahya Jammeh, when we are very much aware that Jammeh had not inherited any wealth; prior to 1994, Jammeh has no saving account in any bank in the Gambia, talkless of a foreign account; it is on record that Lt. Yahya Jammeh took an overdraft from the continent bank in June 1994. How then did Jammeh made his "wealth"?

It is now clear that The Gambian voters are not ready for change of political leadership. The Kombo East by election defeat is a clear indication that our people are still lacking behind when it comes to political change. Our disintegrated opposition are partly responsible for the current predicament Gambians are exposed to today. Under the current political atmosphere the opposition cannot win incumbent President Jammeh and his failed APRC.
