Maafanta Founder Addresses University and College bound Students
As Gambian Journalist Advises US High School Students To Live A Positive Life
By Yero Jallow, Minnesota (USA)
Ms. Fatou Jaw-Manneh, founder of the maafanta website was recently a guest at the South West High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota to address four high school senior class students bound for college and University. Ms. Manneh was invited to speak to students about “Discipline and Courage”, under the capacity of a Gambian journalist, who went through a nightmare of an ordeal under the capricious regime of Gambia’s iron-fist ruler, Yaya Jammeh. Her first official account since her return from the Gambia earlier in March 2009 from a long sedition trial that lasted for one year and six months, Ms. Manneh among other things has pioneered Maafanta, a vibrant site that long since joined other Gambian newspapers in the crusade against tyranny and dictatorship., and also works as a loan servicing officer at a bank in Minneapolis. She was also among the 2007 Oxfam/Novib/Pen award winning journalists.

Halifa Sallah’s Part Two Reaction To Freedom Newspaper Editorial
As Sallah Raises Pertinent Political Issues!!!!
“Michale Scales Wrongly Accused Halifa Of Arrogance.”
By Halifa Sallah, Banjul
Pa , I have cast a fleeting glance at some of the reflections conveyed to me by those who are keenly following my attempt to expurgate what I consider to be unfair comments leveled against me. Interestingly enough after I have asked for Part One to be forwarded to you one person, a non Gambian, who does not know me did accuse me of arrogance and recalcitrance but was asked by others to either make substantive contribution to the debate or hold his breath . As far as I am concerned there is nothing to clarify or argue regarding opinions on personality traits or emotive disposition of a person. Wisdom dictates that one simply takes note of them and moves on. Sometimes, they are aimed at steering a person towards his or her humble self. At other times they amount to an attempt to cover up unpleasant facts with angry invectives. I am convinced that the issues you have raised should be contextualised so that it could engender a seriously meant debate regarding the very future of the multi-party system in our country and the very destiny of our people. I am an internationalist in terms of world view and would entertain dialogue and debate with any one, from anywhere, who is interested in a viable way forward for our country.

Michael Scales Calls For Gambia’s Suspension From The Commonwealth
By Michael Scales, UK
I am very well aware that some Gambian's would take exception to this Englishman making his observations on the distressing situation in The Gambia. Even those who would have some sympathy with my association with The Freedom Newspaper, can still take offence that I should contribute my full quota to the development of a free and truly accountable and transparent.... democratic Gambia.

Sports Fraternity Mute Over Lang’s Ordeal
By Yusupha Cham
Like the rest of the country, the sports fraternity either as members of the National Olympic family and the Gambia Football Association, remain mute and resigned to the waiting game as the only response to the current fate of the GFA Number 2 and GNOC President Lang Tombong Tamba. For well over a week now, news reports circulating from Banjul and other media sources abroad, suggested that Tamba, a former army chief has been arrested and so far since there has been no official statement on the matter, no one seem to know why.

Lt. MA Bah To Investigate General Tamba’s Financial Impropriety Case- State House Sources said
By Boy Badjie, Freedom Newspaper Contributor Banjul
Ex army lieutenant M A Bah, who was recently granted Presidential pardon has been hired to probe the financial impropriety case leveled against General Lang Tombong Tamba, sources here said. MA Bah was seen at the NIA head quarters yesterday briefly before he proceeded to GAF command center, where he and the new CDS Major General Massaneh Kinteh had a lengthy discussion. It is not clear if MA Bah has been reinstated into the military, but what is evident though, his new job assignment is to help account for the missing funds allegedly embezzled by Tamba, and co. Lt. Bah, and Tamba are strange bed fellows. He harbored grudges against Tamba, following reports that he was implicated by the sacked General in the March 2006 coup. The President is playing his cards right by rehiring Bah, who would no doubt execute any dirty job for him.

How Young Buramanding Marreh Managed To Penetrate Kanilai, Farafenni Army Barracks, And Other Security Locations To Collect Arms In The Name Of Influential Gambians
IGP Badjie Under Arrest!!!
By Bakary Kujabi, Kanilai
A good number of arms and ammunitions have been circulated into the country. We can confirm with authority that some of the arms have been hidden in different locations. Matter of fact, Banjul, the capital city is one of the locations, where the said arms are hidden. The circulation of the said arms, followed a burglary at the Farafenni army barracks. You wouldn’t believe this: Buramanding Marreh, was linked to the said burglary, which led to the massive arrest of civilians, and top security chiefs across the country. The story goes like this: Buramanding Marreh is a civilian. He is less than 23 years old. He operates with multiple names (identifications). He was sponsored by General Tamba to pursue professional career at Jollof Tutors. Young Marreh was able to penetrate the country’s big businesses, military, and Kanilai, the President’s home village. Big business shots such as Amadou Samba, Rambo, the Lebanese, Muhammed Jah, and others were implicated by Marreh. He was said to have extorted a huge amount of money from them in the name of General Tamba.
