The Gambian government has taken over the Daily Observer Newspaper, pending the completion of an ongoing investigations to ascertain the assets associated with the former exiled Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh. This followed, a court ruling State Prosecutors secured, which has given Augustus Prom, a private Accounting and Auditing firm owner to oversee the operations of the Daily Observer, until further notice. The recent development has led to the firing of Jammeh’s handpicked Daily Observer MD Pa Modou Mbowe. Mr. Mbowe was fired shortly after meeting with Mr. Prom.

The Freedom Newspaper was able to lay its hands on Pa Modou Mbowe’s termination letter. Mbowe, was informed by Mr. Prom that his sacking was in line with Section 373 and 380 of the Companies Act of 2013. No further reason was provided for Mbowe’s removal.

Mr. Mbowe, was handpicked by dictator Jammeh to manage the Daily Observer during the month long political impasse. Mr. Mbowe, used to live in the United Kingdom. He is today without a job.
