A new radio station is about or has already hit the Gambian airwaves, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The station is called “ STANDARD RADIO.” It is owned by Sheriff Bojang, dictator Yahya Jammeh’s former Information Minister. Haruna Drammeh, the proprietor of Paradise FM, is said to be in partnership with Mr. Bojang, in this new media venture. 

Standard Radio is situated at the old offices of the Daily Observer Newspaper in Bakau. There are other names in the media fraternity said to be part Sheriff’s team.

Mr. Bojang, has long been working on setting up a radio station. He abandoned the project, when Jammeh hired him as an Information Minister, our source intimated.

Sheriff Bojang, could not be reached for comment at press time. A source told us that the station is about to be launched.

In another development, Ebou Waggeh, a former GRTS producer has applied for television license according to PURA sources. Haruna Drammeh’s application is also pending at PURA.

Muhammed Jah’s name came up during our investigations. Jah too is said to be working on setting up a TV station. He is working with investors to set up a TV, our source said. 

There are other former members of the struggle, who had also applied for TV licenses.
