Isatou Njie Saidy is avoiding the media. We just tried to reach her by phone and some crude and weird member of her entourage picked up the phone. The dude wouldn’t allow us to speak to Isatou Njie Saidy. He screens all callers. We were able to keep him on the line for few minutes.  Dude even cursed us out for merely trying to speak to the VP.  He later asked if Freedom Editor was the on the line and he answered in the affirmative.  But that did not stop the dude from raining curse words.  He struggled to articulate himself in English.  Dude later hung up the phone.

ISATOUIt is now clear that Isatou Njie Saidy has learned from her last phone encounter with this medium. She is no longer jumping from her hotel bed to answer to callers. She allows her Protocol to process all incoming callers before the calls get to her.

The Gambian VP has been scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Tuesday around 3:00 PM Eastern Time.  She is here to deputize her boss Yahya Jammeh, who is afraid to travel outside the country for fear of the army toppling him from power. Isatou is going to read Jammeh’s speech on his behalf.

Among the delegation members accompanying her, is Ousman Sonko, Gambia’s Interior Minister. Mr. Sonko was named in the murder of journalist Deyda Hydara. He used to work with the jungullars at some point prior to the murder of Mr. Hydara.  Dictator Jammeh constituted an elite assassin team called the jungullars.  Their job include: killing political opponents, journalists, torture of detainees, and in some occasions the firebombing of media houses.
