The office of the President has issued a directive that with effect from 31st December, 2015, all female staff in the government ministries, Departments and agencies that are no longer allowed to expose their head during official working hours and that female staff are urged to use head tie and neatly wrap their hair, the Freedom Newspaper can report.
“It has come to the attention of this office that certain elements are deliberately misinterpreting this directive. The office of the President wishes to restate and reiterate that the directive is for female Civil Servants to cover their hair during official working hours; did not ask for dressing in the kneecap or full veil,” the statement issued by Gambia’s Defacto dictator Yahya Jammeh further added.
The press release, which was read on both state TV and radio warns Civil Servants to comply with dictator Jammeh’s latest Executive Directive or risked facing disciplinary actions up to termination of one’s employment with the regime. The GRTS news reader Winifred Nicole is a Christian by faith. She also dressed in a head tie. Gambian Christians are now being forced to embrace dictator Jammeh’s recently imposed Islamic State in The Gambia. Christian women working in the Jammeh government are now required to dress as Muslims or risked being fired, or a worst case scenario detained by the Islamic State leader Yahya Jammeh.
The Bishop of The Gambia last week wrote a confidential letter to dictator Jammeh. The content of the letter centered on Jammeh’s recent proclamation of The Gambia as an Islamic State. The dictator never responded to the Bishop’s letter. Instead, he uses the GRTS the next day, to reassert his position of transforming The Gambia as an Islamic State. He also issued an Executive Directive compelling non-Muslims, including Christians to comply with his directive that all Civil Servants should tie their head during working hours.
Meanwhile, a team of NIA agents have been tasked by Jammeh to arrest female Civil Servants, including Christians, who failed to comply with the dictator’s directive. The latest directive is causing discomfort among workers here.
A Christian female worker at the Ministry of Justice said: “ We have been forced against our will to embrace a dress style that’s alien to our faith as Christians. Christian workers in The Gambia are being indoctrinated by Yahya Jammeh to embrace Islamic values and dress code. Failure to comply with his directive, means one losing her employment with the government. I have never put a head tie on my head since I was born. Now I am being enslaved in my own country because of the President’s Islamic religious beliefs. We are crying out here secretly. We are silently dying at the same time. We hope the world will hear us out and come to our aid. We are appealing to President Barack Obama and other world leaders to step in and end this madness taking place in The Gambia in the name of an Islamic State.”
Another Christian lady, working at the office of the President said: “Christianity is being vilified, crucified and persecuted in The Gambia by President Yahya Jammeh. Muslims and Christians have been living in peace and harmony in this country, but Jammeh is about to upset that harmonious relationship that existed between the two faiths. He is forcing female Christian workers in his government to dress as Muslims. This is an attack against Christianity and religious freedom. I don’t even know how to make a head tie. As a Christian in The Gambia, I am being forced by the government (the President) to tie my head when reporting to work. Something crazy is happening in The Gambia. The world should come to our aid.”
A Christian lady working with Gambia’s intelligence told the Freedom Newspaper that her own faith is being persecuted in The Gambia.
“We were under the impression that he was going to exempt Christians female workers from his latest madness, but that’s not the case. He is forcing all female workers to tie their head. This is the lowest of the low. I am worried about the direction this country is heading towards under Jammeh’s rule,” said the intelligent officer.
In another development, Ebrima Jawara, who was reinstated last week, has been fired again. The fired Agriculture Minister has been reinstated. The Jammeh madness continues!
