Gambia’s dictator Yahya Jammeh has hired Alieu Momar Njie, as the new Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can confirm. Mr. Njie replaces Mustapha Carayol, who has been sent on retirement by the Kanilai jester. Carayol has been heading the IEC since 2006.
Mr. Alieu Momar Njie was onetime the IEC Commissioner in the Upper River Region. He has confirmed receiving his appointment letter. Mr. Njie is expected to commence duties as the IEC Chairman today Monday.
Mr. Njie had a rough past with the Jammeh administration. He was detained in the past, following allegations of financial embezzlement. He served as Gambia’s Scout Commissioner for years, before the regime filed trumped up charges against him. He was later released and set free.
Gambians are going to the polls on December, 1st to elect a new President. The opposition have decried about the lack of level playing field ahead of the December polls.
