Gambia’s dictator has ordered Imams across the country to pray for the country, following the recent protest march organized by opposition supporters calling for electoral reform, the Freedom Newspaper can report. The order was enforced during the Muslim Friday prayers. Imams have asked their congregations to jointly pray for peace to rain in The Gambia.
The dictator is accusing Gambians in the diaspora of trying to destabilize his regime by agitating Gambian locals to take to the streets. A charge Gambians overseas have vehemently denied. They in turn called for Jammeh’s stepping down from the Presidency.
NIA agents were deployed in various mosques on Friday to ensure that Jammeh’s orders for prayers was implemented by the Imams. There is an environment of panic in this country. The regime has resorted to closing schools, in fear of another protest march to take place in the Greater Banjul area.
