A sick Gambian woman, who was seeking medical treatment in Banjul, has been arrested by Yahya Jammeh’s rogue security agents, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Ms. Buya Saidy, a resident of Dobo, in the Central River Region, was in Banjul on Monday to seek medical treatment. After seeing her doctor, she proceeded to the courthouse to witness the trial of Gambia’s opposition leader Ousainou Darboe and co, where she was arrested together without peaceful protesters.
The detained UDP leader Ousainou Darboe hailed from Dobo. Ms. Saidy is originally from Niani. She and her husband lived in Dobo. She was in court to sympathize with Mr. Darboe.
According to sources, after she got arrested, Ms. Saidy was transported to the Janjangbureh prison. Her health condition is not that good, but never saved her from not being arrested.
Mr. Ousman Ceesay, is a Gambian sport journalist based in Germany. Mr. Ceesay, who contacted the Freedom Newspaper to lament about the arrest of his aunty by Gambia’s security forces said the news of his aunt’s arrest was brought to his attention by his family in The Gambia.
“She is my only living aunty. She travelled to the Greater Banjul Area, from Dobo, to seek medical treatment. She got arrested while she was in Banjul to witness Darboe’s court proceeding. She was earlier in Banjul, to seek treatment. She has not broken any laws,” said Mr. Ceesay.
“I am calling on The Gambian authorities to release my aunty. She needs to be released to reunite with her family. I was told that she was transported to Janjangbureh. I am very worried about her personal safety. She is sick,” he added.
