Gambia: Breaking News: Prominent Gambian Businessman Amadou Samba Named In The Panama Papers


A prominent Gambian businessman and close confidant of Gambia’s De Facto dictator Yahya Jammeh, Mr. Amadou Samba, has been named in the Panama Papers, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. A private company identified as  “AMASA Holding Limited,” has been linked to The Gambian born lawyer, now turned businessman.  Mr. Amadou Samba, has been listed as a shareholder of the AMASA Holding Company.

Samba editedAccording to the whistle-blower website, the Panama Papers the AMASA Holdings Limited, was incorporated on March 24th 2004 and was said to be been registered in the British Virgin Islands. The company has been linked to a country called the United Kingdom.

The man associated with the company Mr. Amadou Samba, is a Gambian citizen, who lives in The Gambia. The UK based LSG Solicitors, has been listed as the law firm representing the AMASA Holding Limited Company.

The Panama Papers did not reveal the amount of money kept at the AMASA Holding Limited offshore account. The authors of the report, however reported that the company’s shareholder Amadou Samba is located in The Gambia.

Mr. Amadou Samba was contacted by the Freedom Newspaper for comment via his media representative in the United Kingdom, but it took Mr. Samba’s representative about a week before he responded to our email.  Samba’s representative asked us to give him time to get in touch with Mr. Samba. He said he would get back us on our journalistic query by early next week.

Sources from the United Kingdom intimated that Amadou Samba is currently visiting the UK. He is said to be in England at this time.

The same sources told this medium that Mr. Samba is engaged in Real Estate business in the United Kingdom. He is into buying and selling refurbished properties, our source said.

Mr. Samba was recently conferred with an award by Gambia’s Tax Administration, The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA). He was conferred with a Rental Tax Award.

Amadou Samba is a strong supporter of Yahya Jammeh’s Ruling APRC party. He was named after the Brikama road. He has been praised in APRC quarters for being a staunch supporter of the party and its leader Yahya Jammeh.
