Gambia: Do You Agree With This Writer? People In The Struggle Wants Change, But Gambians On The Ground Are Not Ready

Pa, People in the struggle wants change but Gambians on the ground are not ready and are not interested in regime change, that’s the truth. Look at the turnout at Barra, I have seen people crossing from Barra to Banjul and they told me the thousands who turned up to welcome Jammeh. And at the court house less than 100 people in attendance.  People are not ready for change.

Yes indeed…. People on the ground are comfortable with the status quo, that’s the sad reality… Now the issue is how can they be convinced.

The President, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, Babili Mansa and entourage were yesterday accorded a rousing welcome in the North Bank Region (NBR), as he began his nationwide ‘Meet the People tour’.

Many referred to it as “the best welcome” ever accorded to President Jammeh in NBR.

President Jammeh and a high powered delegation left Banjul yesterday afternoon for Farafenni, a provincial town in the North Bank Region.

He was seen off at the Banjul Seaport by the Vice President, Speaker of the National Assembly, cabinet ministers, the Chief Justice of The Gambia, members of the Diplomatic and consular corps in the country and security chiefs amongst others before meeting different groups of jubilating well-wishers and cultural groups in Barra.

Upon arrival in Barra, the roads from the ferry harbour were lined up by cheering crowds, including scores of school children waving placards. The crowd got bigger as the procession continued and people left everything they were doing to be part of what by all accounts looked like a national parade.

People came out in their numbers not only to say welcome, but also to pay homage to the man that Gambians credited for improving their way of life in the last twenty-one years. The Governor of the North Bank Region, Lamin Quin Jammeh, received him in Barra.

Also present at the ferry landing point were the elders and scholars of the region who converged to recite the Quran and to also pray for the President and entourage and the country.

The President held his first meeting of the tour in Farafenni where thousands of people including members of his entourage eerie present.
