Gambia Bar Association President Loubna Farage, has resigned from the Bar, amid strained relationship between the Bar and dictator Yahya Jammeh, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. No reason has been publicly advanced for Ms. Farage’s resignation from the Bar.
It would be recalled that Ms. Farage, was among the guests, who attended the commissioning of the Flour Mill factory, operated by Jammeh and Muhammed Bazzi. She is no longer the Bar President.
It is not clear if her resignation has anything to do with the Bar’s refusal to toe to the dictator’s line. Ms. Farage has been running a divided Bar since the arrest and prosecution of Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the main opposition UDP.
In the meantime, Ms. Farage’s replacement is yet to be named. Sources said Yahya Jammeh is working on recruiting a puppet to replace Ms. Farage.
In another development, Justice Minister Mama Sighateh, has been instructed by Yahya Jammeh to file contempt charges against the lawyers, who walked out of court this past week. Unless the proposed charges have been rescinded, the lawyers are likely to be taken into custody during the weekend or early next week, our source said.
