Gambia: As Economic Crunch Threatens Jammeh’s Regime, Nine SSHFC Staffers Fired!

As the Jammeh regime is struggling with massive cash shortage, nine staffers of the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) have been laid off, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The dismissed staffers received their marching orders as soon as they reported to work. The SSHFC has been faced budgetary problems. The staffers were let go due to lack of budget to maintain workforce there.

The fired SSHFC staffers were not given severance package despite their long years services with the Corporation. The aggrieved staffers have filed a complaint with the Ombudsman’s office. They alleged in their complaint that they were illegally fired without compensation. Hence, they asked the Ombudsman to order the SSHFC to pay them each D300, 000 dalasi each for wrongful termination.

Unfortunately, the Ombudsma, told the aggrieved staff that his office couldn’t do anything on their recent terminations. The former staffers are sitting home with shock and outrage. The former SSHFC workers have hired a lawyer to sue the SSHFC for illegally dismissing them.

The Managing Director of the SSHFC Edward Graham could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this story.
