The actual whereabouts of Gambia’s Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy continues to remain as a mystery—amid conflicting reports that she might “have been taken ill, or has absconded” from the jurisdiction of The Gambia, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Ms. Njie Saidy has been missing from the public view for a while now. The Gambian government has been mute over her whereabouts—prompting speculations that she has jumped from the sinking Jammeh state ship.
A Freedom Newspaper reader, who reached us by email said: “Reports from reliable sources at the State Guard have said that the Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy has absconded, while attending the “Umra” (pilgrimage) in Mecca. She absconded in the last ten days of the Ramadan. She has since not returned to the country. The State House is keeping a tied lip about the issue. The fact is that she ran away.”
The same Freedom Newspaper reader, was contacted by phone to shed more light on the story and this is what he had to say: ” My boys at the State Guard told me that the Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy, has absconded. They told me that Yahya Jammeh is very upset about the VP’s move. The matter is being kept secret–given the ramifications associated with such a scandal. I have no reason to disbelieve my contacts at the State Guard. I was even told that some airport workers were arrested in regards to the incident.”
Other sources said the Vice President is sick and could not perform her official functions. Another source said he believes that the VP is still in the country. She is suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, our source added.
If it is true that the VP has absconded, then dictator Yahya Jammeh is in deep shit. This woman is privy to a lot of state secrets.
It should be noted that Isatou Njie Saidy’s children live in the United States. Her family is not keen at discussing the matter—given the sensitivity of the issue.
Within the ruling APRC camp, it has been rumored that Ms. Binta Sidibeh Jammeh, is being groomed to replace the missing Vice President. Ms. Jammeh is the Executive Director of The Gambia Women’s Bureau.
