The Brikama market has been set ablaze by unknown arsonists, the Freedom Newspaper can report. The incident happened late Wednesday night. There was significant destruction to property. Traders merchandise (goods) stored in their shops were destroyed beyond recognition. No one has claimed responsibility for the Brikama market arson attack.
Police in Brikama, including the NIA, were on the ground to assess the damage of the blaze. Virtually everyone was saddened by the damage caused by the fire.
The Brikama Fire and Ambulance Services showed up to help put off the fire, but sources said the majority of the shops were burnt to ashes.
The incident followed, reports of some angry youths, who recorded a video on social media some time ago, demanding for the resignation of dictator Yahya Jammeh. The youths vowed to burn the market if Jammeh fails to heed to their call. The youths have complained about Jammeh’s maladministration characterized by massive unemployment and economic hardship.
