Gambia’s Vice President overseer Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang has been finally confirmed as VP by the Barrow government, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Her appointment as VP has been finalized. She is expected to take her oath of office and secrecy in coming hours.

Ms. Tambajang’s confirmation as VP was delayed due to constitutional requirements. She was overaged by virtue of the Constitution. But the said provision of the constitution was recently repealed by the National Assembly.

Ms. Tambajang used to be dictator Jammeh’s Health Minister, before she was sacked. She later worked for the UN System in Liberia.

His Excellency the President of the Republic, of The Gambia Mr. Adama Barrow, acting under the provisions of Sections 70(1) and 70(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia has appointed Mrs. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang as Vice President and Minister for Women’s Affairs with effect from 8th September, 2017. 

Mrs Tambajang has been overseeing the post of Vice President since President Barrow came to office.
