Vice President Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang left Banjul with a delegation of one hundred people including five state Ministers to attend a two days inter-governmental meeting in the Senegalese capital Dakar, the Freedom Newspaper can report. The aim of the two days forum is to bring together the people of both countries (Senegal and The Gambia) in a single-interactive-business-platform with a view to exchanging businesses and exploring further business opportunities, according to a document obtained by the Freedom Newspaper in regards to the conference. One way of achieving this is by bringing together stakeholders from both countries in a forum and allow them discuss issues and formulate strategies that will bring the desired sustainable development for both countries, the document stated.
The theme for the conference is: “Multisectoral relations and business networking for the Senegambia people”. It is going to start on Thursday October 5th. Guest speakers at the Dakar conference include: Ambassador Paul Badji, Executive Secretary Senegalo-Gambian Permanent Secretariat, The President Senegalese Federation of Chambers of Commerce, The President Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Honorable Madam Fatoumata Jallow-TAMBAJANG, Minister of Women’s Affairs, Overseer of the Vice-Presidency of The Republic of The Gambia, and His Excellency Mr Mahammed Boun Abdallah DIONNE, Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal.
The conference is going to be held at the King Fahad Hotel; to be followed by a Galla Dinner. Musician Youssou Ndour has been booked to entertain the guests.
According to sources, the conference’s objective is to open dialogue, consultation and partnership at the highest authority within institutions in order to provide accelerated progress for the realization of the protocols and agreements signed into by the two states hence the need to engage each other in direct talks in order to derive maximum opportunities from the forum.
During president Barrow’s recent visit to Senegal, on 4th March 2017, the two Heads of State agreed to establish a Presidential Council which would meet every six months.
“The Council will be jointly chaired by the two heads of state to examine all issues of bilateral interest and provide guidance to the two Governments for deepening cooperation. The two leaders also signed agreements in the areas of defense and security, tourism and consular affairs, as well as air and maritime transport, justice, fisheries, road transport and forestry. It is therefore the mandate of The Senegalo-Gambian Permanent Secretariat as an Interstate Institution for harmonization of policies, and cooperation between the Republic of The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal, to play the leading role in the administration of these protocols. This however cannot be achieved without the full participation of the people of both countries in an interactive manner through the usual Senegambia spirit,” said the document.
“It is for this reason that The Senegalo-Gambian Permanent Secretariat, in collaboration with The Senegalese-Gambian Association for Integration and Socio-economic Development, wishes to stage a multisectoral Forum in King Fahad Palace Hotel in Dakar, Senegal regarding business networking for both the public sectors and private sectors within Senegal and The Gambia from Thursday 5th to Friday 6thOctober 2017,” the organizers of the conference said.
