Another soldier deserter has been taken into custody, following attempts to sneak into the country unnoticed, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The soldier was intercepted along Amadlai/ Karang border by Gambian intelligence officers. He was arrested without an incident. He was among the soldiers, who traveled to Equatorial Guinea with dictator Yahya Jammeh.
The soldier’s name is yet to be established. Our sources will fill us in with additional details in coming hours.
Meanwhile, the SIS officers stationed at Amadali have contacted the military police to show up and pick up the detained soldier. The military police have since left Banjul for Amadali to pick up the detainee.
The soldier in question reportedly went on absent without leave ( AWOL). He is among the former Jammeh loyalists who returned home.
The former Kanilai dictator Yahya Jammeh is running out of funds to sustain his security detail. His loyalists have started jumping ship.
First to defect was General Ansumana Tamba, General Umpah Mendy, and Captain Momodou Jarju. Both Tamba and Mendy have been detained at the Yundum barracks, while Momodou Jarju is on the run.
It has been gathered that some of the runaway soldiers in Guinea Conakry, and Guinea Bissau have been sneaking in and out of the country unnoticed. Some of the former soldiers have sought shelter in the Southern province of Casamance.
