NMC Warns ‘unauthorised’ Nursing Schools

It has come to the attention of the Nurses and Midwives Council that certain Nurse attending training schools are operating in the country using the ‘unauthorized’ title Nursing and Nurses for their products.

In a press release yesterday said: “As an established office (Nurse and Midwives Act 1989) responsible for regulating Nursing and Midwifery Training Practice in The Gambia, the Nurses and Midwives Council is deeply trouble by this unfortunate development.”

The general public is therefore, informed that there are five (5) Recognized Training Institution and Midwifery in The Gambia. They are University of The Gambia- Department of Nursing and Reproductive Health (BSc Nursing programme) location; UTG, c/o EFSTH, Banjul, American International University West Africa College of Nursing (BSc Nursing programme.) Location Kanifing, KMC, Gambia College School of Nursing and Midwifery (Registered Nursing and Midwifery programmes) Location; Banjul, Enrolled Nursing and Midwifery Training School (SEN/M) Location; Bansang, CRR, Community Health Nursing Training School (CHN/M) Location; Mansakonko, LRR.

They warned that any other institution purportedly training nurse attendants or trained nurses referring to them as Nurses is operating outside the Laws of the country and must cease spreading such misleading information with immediate effect.
