Fifteen Gambian illegal immigrants have been rounded up and deported from Germany to The Gambia, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The German police conducted the early morning raids across Stuttgart, Wurttemberg, Baden, and around other cities in Germany on Thursday. The majority of the deportees traveled through the perilous back way journey to Germany. They arrived in Banjul on Friday on board a flight before they were handed over to The Gambian Immigration agents.

Among those deported from Stuttgart include: Basiru Ceesay and Alkali Njie, AKA Karl.

Also arrested was one Malleh of Latri-Kunda. Malleh was on his way to work, when he got arrested by the German police, his uncle told this medium in a whatsapp message. Malleh’s uncle also live in Germany.

Some of the deportees had their asylum claims denied. They were placed on deportation order.

Gambian Immigration officers are currently in Germany, aiding the German police in facilitating the deportations.  “They are here. I can tell that they are not happy that their own brothers and sisters are being deported. But they have a job to do. They will tell you that there is nothing back home. Life is difficult in The Gambia,” said one Gambian Immigrant who wished not to be named.

The Immigrant also had a pending case with the German Immigration. He said many Gambians had their asylum claims rejected.

“Now that there is a change of political dispensation, the Germans felt that all those whose asylum applications were denied, should be sent back home to The Gambia. They descended to our residence unannounced and started calling people by their names to be arrested. They had a list in their possession. They arrested those whose travel documents were prepared and deported them on Thursday,” he added.
