“The Gambian Armed forces wish to confirm the discharge of Colonel Kawsu Sanyang from The Gambia Armed Forces. Colonel Sanyang had an illustrious career in the military. The Gambia Armed Forces would like to wish him well in his future endeavor,” The Gambia Armed Forces announced on Monday in a statement.

No reason was given for Sanyang’s removal. Sanyang enrolled into the army in 1991. He is a batch mate of CDS Masaneh Kinteh. He has received military training in Pakistan.

Sanyang was fired from the military and detained during Jammeh’s rule. He later traveled to the United Kingdom, where spent few years before returning home. He was reinstated into the army upon his home return.

Sanyang’s firing followed reports that he was secretly recorded making comments critical of the Barrow administration. He was recorded by a soldier. The soldier was given a ride by Sanyang. He allegedly made comments critical of CDS Masaneh Kinteh, and the Barrow government.

Mr. Sanyang was discharged from the Force as soon as the tape reaches the relevant authorities. He has been categorized as a disgruntled officer.

Mr. Sanyang onetime served as Commander of the military training school. He was redeployed to the Army Headquarters in Banjul, following the change of government.
