A former National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) Director, who was fired by dictator Yahya Jammeh, has been reinstated by the government of Adama Barrow, FREEDOM NEWSPAPER CAN REVEAL. Kalilu Njie, has been reinstated. He has been asked to report to the police, where he is supposed to take up a new assignment.
Mr. Njie is a former member of the defunct National Gendamerie. He was transferred to the police in the aftermath of the amalgamation of the Gendamerie to the police. He was among the first batch of the Drug Squad headed by Kebba Fatty and Lai Lemon respectively.
Kalilu Njie had earlier applied to be reinstated to the NDEA, following the change of government in December of 2016, but his request was denied. The former SG Dawda Fadera, acting in concert with the current DG of NDEA Bakary Gassama, rescinded a recommendation made by a panel that was constituted at the time to review the cases of the former fired officers.
The panel had recommended for the reinstatement of both Kalilu Njie and Pateh Jallow, a former Deputy Director at the NDEA. Gassama was reported to have claimed that the duo will not be useful to the agency because they have suffered “institutional lost of memory—given their long absence from work.
Kalilu Njie has been in government service for over twenty years. He was the OC of the Gendamerie station in Mansakonko. He is bilingual. He speaks French fluently.
