Barely seventy-two hours after naming the killers of Gambia’s former Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay on Freedom Radio Gambia’s Sunday prime time Leral Show, Ex- Army Captain and former Junta Spokesman Ebou Jallow says his brother Edmond Thomas, has been murdered on late Wednesday evening in The Gambia, FREEDOM NEWSPAPER CAN REPORT. Ebou Jallow and Edmond Thomas shared the same mother, but different father. Edmond is Ebou’s half-brother. Edmond Thomas is next to Ebou Jallow. He was in his 40s prior to his gruesome murder. He was murdered by unknown killer(s). Thomas was a mechanic prior to his murder. He owns a mechanic shop.
The Brother Of Ebou Jallow, Edmond Thomas Murdered
Edmond Thomas was murdered three days after his brother Ebou Jallow had made disturbing revelations on Freedom Radio Gambia about information that he (Jallow) had received from two former junta officials Edward Singhateh and Yankuba Touray, who have been named in the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay. Jallow says both Edward Singhateh and Yankuba Touray had explained to him as to how Koro Ceesay was murdered. He says Singhateh was the main mastermind behind Koro’s murder.
Jallow also says Edward Singhateh and his younger brother Peter Singhateh had confessed to him of taking part in the murder of Koro Ceesay. Singhateh told Jallow that the plot to murder Ceesay, was orchestrated by Edward Singhateh himself. He later had his brother Peter Singhateh, Alhagie Kanyi, and other soldiers to be part of the plot to assassinate the former Minister.
Ceesay was killed at Yankuba Touray’s Kololi home. Jallow says Touray was not aware of Singhateh’s plot to kill Koro. He knew about the plot, when Koro was attacked and killed in Touray’s living room. He said Singhateh told him that Touray even tried to run after Koro was killed, but was pursued by him Singhateh, who gun pointed him to stop running.
News of Edmond Thomas’s murder reached Ebou Jallow late Wednesday evening. He was informed by his uncle Mbye Njie that his brother Edmond Thomas has been murdered.
“Hi Ebou, how are you? Edmond Thomas was found dead at his workplace this afternoon. He is suspected to have been murdered and the police are investigating,” Mbye Njie wrote to Ex Captain Jallow via Facebook messenger.
Mbye Njie shared father with Ebou’s late mother. He was the first to break the death of Ebou’s brother Edmond Thomas.
Speaking to the Freedom Newspaper, a distraught Ebou Jallow said: “ I just found out that my brother Edmond Thomas, the same mother, was found murdered today. The police are investigating. I suspect it must be a retaliation for my disclosures about Koro.”
Jallow says his late brother Edmond was known to Koro’s suspected killers Edward Singhateh and Peter Singhateh. He says the Singhateh brothers knew his brother.
Ebou Jallow says he was a close friend of the Singhateh brothers—particularly Edward Singhateh. He says the duo had confided in him about taking part in the murder of Koro Ceesay.
“The government should recognize that the revelations and confessions will come at a risk. It is not a child’s play. I suspect foul play. It is a retaliation for my disclosures about Koro. Killers are at the loose in The Gambia,” Jallow remarked, while calling on the Barrow government to tighten security during Gambia’s transition period.
Mr. Jallow is yet to give evidence before the TRRC. He thinks that his revelations on Freedom Radio Gambia linking the Singateh brothers to the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay might have angered those responsible for Koro’s death. Hence, they decided to avenge their anger at his brother Edmond Thomas.
This was not the first time Jallow had exposed Koro’s killers. He made similar revelations during Jammeh’s rule on Freedom Radio Gambia.
Jallow resigned from the military junta back in 1995 after accusing Jammeh and his former fellow council members of murdering Ousman Koro Ceesay. Jallow has been consistent with his stories about Koro’s murder. He also accused the former junta of corruption and massive human rights violations.
It would be recalled that Alhagie Kanyi, a former army corporal, recently confessed before Gambia’s TRRC of taking part in the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay. Kanyi says Koro Ceesay was killed at Yankuba’s Touray’s home by him, Edward Singhateh, Peter Singhateh and other soldiers. He also said Yankuba Touray had taken part in the murder Koro Ceesay.
The former Junta Spokesman Ebou Jallow told Freedom Radio Gambia that it was him, who recommended Koro Ceesay to Yahya Jammeh for Koro to be appointed Finance Minister. Koro was also a member of the military council. Ebou was a close buddy of the late Koro Ceesay.
He said Yahya Jammeh, Edward Singhateh, Peter Singhateh, Alhagie Kanyi, and Tumbul Tamba were complicit in the murder of Ceesay. Koro was murdered hours after seeing off Jammeh at the airport. Jammeh had left The Gambia for Addis Ababa to attend an OAU Summit prior to Koro’s murder.
According to Jallow, he was informed by Edward Singhateh that Koro Ceesay was murdered because of reports the former junta had received, which linked Ceesay to working with some Ghanaians to overthrow the military regime at the time. He also says both Singhateh and Jammeh had complained to him (Jallow) about Koro’s unilateral decision to close The Gambia/Senegalese border without the expressed permission or knowledge of the junta.
Jallow says after Singhateh and co had murdered Koro Ceesay, his body was put in a body bag and dumped into his official Mercedes Benz car. Singhateh’s brother Peter Singhateh and some guards then drove Koro’s car to the outskirt of Jambour, where they set Koro and the vehicle on fire.
He says Peter Singhateh even sustained burns on his hand during the incident. He said Edward Singhateh and Yankuba Touray were present at the scene of the car burning.
The Gambian police could not be reached for comment about Edmond Thoma’s murder at the time of going to press.
