THE TRRC: KUDOS TO THE TEAM OF COMPETENT PERSONALITIES AT THE TRRC IN CARRYING OUT THEIR MISSION WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOR ESPECIALLY THE LEAD COUNSEL, MR. ESSA FAAL (FAAL BERAM)!
Truth is justice in action and there cannot be peace without justice. Those who initially doubted the work of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission and the brouhaha that followed the appointment of the head of investigations, Mr. Alhagie Barrow and others, would now have to recoil in disbelief and shame seeing the way the witnesses are thoroughly examined to establish the one thing that matters; the truth. Few are now questioning the ability of the lead counsel and his team of investigators in getting to the bottom of the alleged killings, torture, disappearances and other human rights abuses that occurred during the era of Yaya Jammeh.
The revelations thus far are astounding and the order the witnesses are appearing lend credence to the fact that those doing the investigations are carrying out their job assiduously and in a professional manner that is leaving no buried stones unturned. From a tearful private nurse whose husband was brutally murdered, to a weeping unremorseful senior Immigration officer who admitted murdering more than five of his colleagues in the army, to a heartlessly menacing killer nicked-named the ‘assassin,’ who up till now is still torturing innocent victims at the drug agency to extract confessions; the commission is really carrying out its mandate without fear or favor.
One of the most touching testimony so far is that of the sister of Koro Ceesay, Ya Bajen Ceesay Jaiteh. Everyone agreed that she recounted her story with candor, dignity and truthfulness. I know the late mum and dad will be smiling in their graves. She did a splendid job telling narrating the events that took place which also puts Kaba Bajo as interior minister in another precarious situation. But former army commander Jatta’s incessant lies and omissions left me wondering how effective the strategy of the lead counsel’s tactical moves to fret out the chaff from the wheat.
To say that the TRRC is doing a great job to establish the truth and expose those who participated with former President Jammeh who is in exile at Equatorial Guinea, to commit gross human rights violations including detentions and torture without trial, killings and disappearances without trace, is an understatement.
The work of the TRRC is the work of God! Our prayers are with the departed souls and victims. More grease to your elbows- FAALBERAM.
