Message to the Gambian Artist and the Gambian peoples

To the Gambian Artists.

Everyone is looking for peace. The whole world is on the search for peace and a stable mind of comfort. You (artists) are also on the same struggle. May Allah grant you and us beneficial means to find the peace of the mind and heart from the remembrance of Allah.

I was very much puzzled at first when a colleague showed me ST’s video. I believe he wanted to recite Surah An Naazi’at. It got me laughing and I said, “these Artists are a joke.”
However, thoughts rushed through my mind. I said to myself, what if they were sincere? What if they wanted goodness? What if they wanted to know their level of knowledge of the Quran? These I couldn’t find answers for then I acted on the advise of the prophet where he asked us to have “husnus dhan” (good thoughts) on people.

It is in our nature as Muslims to like to hear a beautiful recitation of the Quran, however many of us don’t have a nice voice or struggle reading Quran.
If you’re from a non-Arab background, never learned Arabic, There is no denying that you will struggle. You will stutter and you will stumble when trying to make words out.
By no means, however, is this a reason for you to feel disadvantaged, defeated or depressed. And by no means is this a reason for others to look down at you or ridicule you or even take you down on social media. In fact, it’s a reason for them to envy you – for the reward you get for reading the Quran is double the reward others will receive.
As the Prophet ﷺ said:
Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.”

My brothers and Sisters, truth be told in seeking the pleasure of Allah Y’all need to enroll into a Daara and be thought on a daily basis. You are not bad people as a society will label you. There is a chance for every Muslim to turn back to Allah. Your very own Gambian Sister, Sandeng took a U-turn and made her life a peaceful connection with her creator. If ST has the ability to fill the stadium, if Jizzle is capable of being the “next Big thing” if Bai Babu can describe “cheb bu seww bi” if Gee can be proud of Gambian hospitality, If Katatoo Smallz can “bulol kosi” if Attack can “haaaatuf”, if Big FAA can “stand for anything” if Badibunka can “Kebama naata” if kitabu can “kee fee fee party” etc…and people get entertained, buy tickets to merry with you just for Dunya, how about if you changed Direction to seek the pleasure of Allah. People will follow you. You will be amongst the callers to Islam, great assets of Islam, propagators of Islam.

To conclude, I am confident you all are my brothers. I want for us peace and a better society. I respect your Quranic Challenge, and I’ll give my award end of Ramadan.
