A former prominent and respected member of Gambia’s Liberation struggle has been appointed Deputy Youth Adviser to President Adama Barrow, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Saihou Mballow, a leading Gambian pro-democracy activist, now works at the President’s Office’s in Banjul, where he served as a Deputy Youth Adviser to The Gambian Head of State. Mballow works under Henry Gomez, President Barrow’s Youth Adviser.

Mr. Mballow has been living in the United States for many years prior to his recent home return. He is a career Gambian politician, and also rights activist. He was among the founding members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Youth Wing, before relocating to the US, where he also served as the UDP Coordinator for many years.

Mballow is also the founder of the US based pro-democracy group called—The Gambian Movement for Democracy and Development. He has led so many protest marches against dictator Jammeh in New York, and elsewhere around the United States prior to the fall of Jammeh.

Contacted for comment, Mballow, has confirmed his appointment. He says his appointment comes into force with effect from May 6th.
