The Kanifing Municipality under the leadership of Mayor Talib Bensouda has purchased nineteen trucks (19) for the council, Freedom Newspaper has gathered. Each truck was said to have been bought for five million dalasis (D5 million).

The KMC had reportedly entered into a loan agreement with AGIB bank, sources said. The project was never tendered. It was done through single sourcing.

It was not long ago, that Mayor Bensouda, had announced a loan package for Gambian women living in the KMC locality, in the tune of one hundred million dalasis (D100 million). He said the funds were meant to empower Gambian women.

The KMC had reached an agreement with the Reliance Financial Services, a privately-owned financial company, to loan D100 million dalasis to the council. Bensouda has been taking heat from his critics since he made the announcement for the said women empowerment project.

Questions have been asked about his alleged affiliation to the said company. Bensouda was also criticized for failing to place the project on public tender.

Mayor Bensouda could not be reached for comment.
