The Gambian government has rescinded a decision it recently took to recall its Ambassador to the Russian Federation Mrs. Jainaba Bah, Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Mrs. Jainaba Bah was among the United Democratic Party (UDP) handpicked Ambassadors back in 2017, following the fall of dictator Jammeh. She was hired into the Foreign Service with the help of her UDP party Leader and onetime Foreign Minister Ousainou Darboe. Darboe later became Gambia’s Vice President and was fired together with two other UDP Ministers during a cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Barrow.

In a letter dated May 27 May, 2019, addressed to Mrs. Jainaba Bah, and was entitled “ URGENT & IN CONFIDENCE” Gambia’s Foreign Ministry said: “ With reference to our MEA/P/785/ (23-ETT) of 16th May 2019, we are pleased to inform you that Executive Directives have been conveyed to rescind the decision to recall you. You are therefore required to stay en poste as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary until further notice.”

Executive Directives are usually issued by the President Adama Barrow. He is the hiring authority. He is empowered by law to recall and rescind such decisions.

“ A copy of this memo, the Deputy Head of Mission is hereby instructed to issue a Note Verbale to the Russian Foreign Ministry and other relevant authorities conveying the change in decision,” the letter stated.

The letter that was sent to Mrs. Jainaba Bah, was signed by one Mrs. S.E.T Touray on behalf of the Permanent Secretary. It was copied to the Secretary General Ebrima Camara, the PS PMO, PS Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others.

A source who wished to remain anonymous said: “Hello Pa, l want to give you this information that The Gambia Foreign Ministry is not been fair to its diplomats, some are recalled and others rescinded. Hypocrisy 101 at work.”

Mrs. Jainaba Bah is a member of the UDP. She was recalled together with four other Ambassadors: Dr. Momodou Lamin Sedat Jobe, Gambia’s Ambassador to France, Faye Ceesay, Gambia’s Ambassador to China, Kemesseng Jammeh, Gambia’s Ambassador to Turkey. Ceesay, and Jammeh are also UDP members. Jobe is a longtime childhood friend of Ousainou Darboe.

It appears that some form of lobbying is going on; to enable one, to be able to stay in Barrow’s last bus to Mangkamang-Kunda. Jainaba Bah might have switched her allegiance to the self-styled Gambian bus driver Adama Barrow’s political team; hence which led to the revocation of her recall letter.

It should be noted that Mrs. Jainaba Bah joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) few years before the change of government. She was never an active member of Gambia’s decade long liberation struggle to ouster dictator Jammeh, through democratic means.

Her husband Dr. Sarjo Jallow, a native of Basse, had served as Jammeh’s Information Minister. Jallow was Gambia’s Information Minister, when dictator Jammeh’s trigger happy rouge security personnel, had killed 14 unarmed Gambian school children and journalist Omar Barrow, back in April of 2000. This followed a student unrest, which had thrown The Gambia in a state of turmoil for days.
