The United Democratic Party (UDP) is bracing up for the next elections. It had secured motorbikes and vehicles ahead of the Presidential election. The party is now in competition with its former political ally President Adama Barrow. This followed, a political fallout between Barrow and his political Godfather Ousainou Darboe. Darboe had served as Foreign Minister and Vice President under Barrow’s rule. He was later dropped off from Barrow’s bus together with the UDP Ministers: Amadou Sanneh, and Lamin Ndambou Dibba.
A UDP official, who contacted us said: “The UDP Motorcycles have started arriving. 60 of the 100 motorcycles have arrived in the Gambia. 50 vehicles will be coming soon.”
The party hasn’t disclose the source of the motorbikes. UDP is one of the biggest political parties in The Gambia. But of recent, we have witnessed an internal infighting within the rank and file of the party. Some section of the party’s supporters appeared to have jumped ship to Barrow’s newly formed political camp; a claim the UDP leadership have disputed. They said the party is in tack and come elections Barrow would be sent packing.
