A veteran Gambian politician Pa Manneh has branded Ousainou Darboe as a selfish politician. Manneh was speaking on Saturday in Brikama, during a political rally.
Manneh began his speech by talking about the trials and tribulations endured by the opposition during dictator Jammeh’s rule. He also acknowledged the efforts of the opposition then to put up a resistance against dictator Jammeh’s rule.
Manneh noted that despite all odds, the opposition had done their best to oust Jammeh from power in the past elections without success. He referenced the UDP, one of the biggest parties in The Gambia during dictator Jammeh’s rule, during his speech. The UDP is led by Ousainou Darboe’s Gambia’s recently sacked Vice President.
According to Pa Manneh, despite UDP’s numbers, the party couldn’t singlehandedly defeat Jammeh in past elections. That was why the opposition had decided to come together in 2016, to challenge Jammeh, which led to Barrow’s victory. Barrow had to resign from the UDP run as an independent candidate in that polls, which was marred by a post-election impasse.
Mr. Manneh lambasted the UDP Leader Ousainou Darboe in his brief and captivating speech. He said Darboe is not only self-centered, but selfish.
He recalled Darboe boycotting one the National Assembly elections after his failed Presidential bid. He said due to Darboe’s spearheaded NAM election boycott, six UDP MPS had to lose their seats in the National Assembly.
Manneh said President Barrow’s government is on course, and therefore it behooves all Gambians to rally behind the Government. He said the UDP under Darboe, has no good agenda for the country, other than undermining the efforts of the current administration.
Manneh also talked about the need for protesters to secure permit before hitting the streets. He says the public order act was passed for a reason. He cited the issue of public and protesters safety to back up his argument.
Pa Manneh is among the founding members of Waa Juwara’s NDAM party. He is an outspoken politician.
