President Barrow receives President Putin’s renewed goodwill message to African Leaders
State House, Banjul: June 18, 2019 – His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, has acknowledged receipt of a goodwill message of the Russian President, His Excellency, Vladimir Putin on commemoration of the Africa Day as designated by the African Union.
Since 1963, May 25 has globally been observed as the Africa Day. It acknowledges the solidarity among African countries. The day gives citizens the opportunity to recommit to government interventions to develop a unified vision and strengthened collaboration.
In his message to the African leaders through the African Union, the Russian leader described the Africa Day as symbol of unity and solidarity of the People of the Continent, their aspiration for independence, peace and prosperity. President Putin noted the aspirations of the African States towards socio-economic hoist using science and technology in addressing challenges in a globalized world. He recommits Russia’s willingness to partner with Africa in resolving conflicts, crimes and violence that threaten global peace and security.
The message concluded with recognition of the friendly relations with African countries and looks forward to the Russia-Africa Summit and the Economic Forum to be held in October in Sochi, which is aimed at further boosting the partnership and cooperation with Africa.
