All is not well at The Gambia Armed Forces. Despite the army spokesman’s recent denial of the arrest of soldiers at the Fajara barracks, amid growing resentment among soldiers against the Chief of Defense Staff Masaneh Kinteh, GAF insiders, who wished not to be named have debunked the army spokesman’s claims. The insiders said some arrests were made.
Among those arrested were identified as: Lamin Sanneh, Lamin Touray, and Ebrima Badjie. One of the arrested soldiers goes with the nickname Paw. He is a native of Brikama.
A GAF insider says overall seven soldiers have been implicated in connection with what he calls a potential security breach hatched against CDS Kinteh.
Kinteh recently traveled to Nigeria. He is expected to return to The Gambia today.
GAF insiders claimed that there is a cover up amongst the command over recent security related threats development involving some GAF personnel. CDS Kinteh is said to be allegedly losing the respect and confidence of some section of his command, one insider remarked.
Inside the Defense Head Quarters in Banjul, there is growing concern among the rank and file of the officers corps. The resentment being waged against the CDS, is coming from the non-commission officers, one insider told me. These are disgruntled junior soldiers, who are displeased with the CDS’s style of leadership, the insider added.
