Some official of Gambia’s Social Security, Housing and Finance Corporation (SSHFC) have been granted police bail after spending overnight under police custody, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Among the arrested officials include: Alhagie Fatty, Senior Housing Manager, Modou Sarr, Assistant Manager Housing and one Amie Sarr. Ms. Sarr works at the SSHFC documentation Department.
The arrest followed allegations that the accused officials were allegedly engaged in what SSHFC insiders called “wrongful allocation of plots of land” belonging to the Corporation. MD Manjang was said to have turned in the implicated workers to the police; hence which led to their subsequent arrest.
A Gambian law enforcement source, who reached out to us said, the accused SSHFC officials were detained overnight. The official also said investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Sources close to the SSHFC have equally implored on the IGP Mamor Jobe to implement the Ombudsman report, which had indicted the SSHFC MD Manjang for alleged abuse of per diem allowances among others.
“The allegations against the accused Housing staff are yet to be substantiated. That said, I am against corruption in any form. The police should not stop at investigating the alleged illegal land allocation, it should also pursue the Ombudsman report,” said our source.
