A Gambian army Captain Bubacarr Bah, who recently confessed before Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) for having brutally assaulted and broken the eye of the former Agriculture Minister Omar Amadou Jallow, during the country’s military rule back in July of 1994, has been promoted to the rank of a Major, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Bah was promoted together with some GAF officers. Bah is an officer assigned to the Republican National Guard. He was promoted to the rank of Major shortly after his TRRC testimony, where he apologized to his victim OJ Jallow. Bah told the TRRC that he regretted his past actions and he promised not to repeat it again.
Bubacarr Bah is a native of Nuimi. He is among the few ballistic experts in The Gambian army. He specializes in heavy weapons operation and the detonation of bombs (explosive devices).
He claimed in his testimony that dictator Jammeh had wanted to use him to install bombs around Denton bridge during the country’s political impasse. Bah was among the officers arrested when Jammeh refused to relinquish power to Adama Barrow, who was declared as the winner of the December 1st, 2016 Presidential elections. He was stationed at the Fajara barracks at the time of his arrest.
It should be noted that Major Bah had praised his army Chief of Defense Staff Masanneh Kinteh during his TRRC testimony closing remarks. He described Kinteh as a good CDS. He also said Kinteh should be allowed to continue to run the army.
