The Gambia Democratic Congress party GDC has been issued permit by the police to hold political rallies in Tumana and Jimara. The rallies have been scheduled for December 14th and December 15th.
This followed a permit denial to the GDC by the police. The police had earlier claimed that due to busy schedule, it could not issue permit to the GDC. The police also cited lack of personnel for their decision. It also claimed that December was a busy month for them; hence all permit issuance have been suspended until the new year.
Dr. Demba Sabally of the GDC and his team were handed the permit today, when they visited the police headquarters. Sabally told the Star FM radio that the police haven’t advance any reason for their change of mind on the permit issuance issue. Dr. Sabally said the permit was just issued to them. He added that they are going ahead with their planned rallies.
The GDC had protested the police’s move to deny them permit. The party said it was going to reapply for permit.
As soon as they reapplied for a permit, it was issued today.
