The sacked and onetime jailed Gambian police chief Essa Badjie, AKA Jesus, has been reinstated into the Force, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Badjie reported to work today at the police headquarters in Banjul. He has been hired as a police Commissioner responsible for Crime Management. He is the new Crime Management Coordinator (CMC) at the police headquarters.
Badjie was jailed during dictator Jammeh’s rule on drug and armed robbery related charges. He denied the charges in a recent appearance before the TRRC. He instead accuses dictator Jammeh of power abuse. He also claimed that he was a victim of torture during dictator Jammeh’s rule.
President Adama Barrow has of recent effected some changes in the force. The former dismissed National Drug Enforcement agency boss Pateh Jallow has also been reinstated. Jallow is now the Deputy Police Commission responsible for operations. He works under Operations Commissioner Landing Bojang.
The return of Enssa Badjie has surprised many at the Force. Badjie and Landing Bojang had a strained past. Badjie claimed that it was Landing Bojang, who conspired with Jammeh, and some criminals to send him to prison.
Reports have it that President Barrow is planning to send some top officers of the force home in coming days. Jesus Badjie has bounced back into the Force once again.
