Wednesday was the scheduled date to redeploy some security chiefs, but that decision has been deferred for now, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. There is a looming bombshell at Gambia’s security sector. President Adama Barrow is planning to effect major changes in that sector. Prominent names had surfaced as likely officials to be replaced. Our sources have asked us to avoid mentioning names for now and wait until the planned decision is finalized. As our source rightly puts it ” each time your paper reports such stories, they would try to delay such planned decisions or to proof you wrong. You occasionally saved others from being fired because of your reportage; they would want to proof you wrong when your report about such planned firings.”
The Barrow State House is interested in maintaining a security team that it could rely upon. The administration wants security chiefs, who are loyal to the status quo, one source has revealed. Hence, it had started purging officials whose loyalty are questionable.
There are two security agencies that are on the State House’s radar. Security appointments that were recommended by the sacked former Vice President Ousainou Darboe are currently being reviewed, said sources. It is widely believed within the State House that there are some security chiefs, who are not loyal to current status quo.
Unless President Barrow changes his mind, he is likely going to effect the changes before the end of this week. The fire outbreak in Kanilai, among other state matters had delayed his decision to drop the bombshell.
