Food Safety and Quality Authority Board Chairman Resign
The Chairman Board of Directors of the Food Safety and Quality Authority of the Gambia (FSQA), Mr Badara Loum has tendered his resignation letter on Friday 7 February 2020. His resignation came at a time when the authority which is under the office of the Vice President headed by Dr Isatou Touray is confronted with a petition saga signed by 32 staffers against Director Zainab Jallow on matters ranging from corruption, nepotism abuse of office and others.
Mr Loum’s resignation was triggered by the unlawful dismissal of a dozen staff, management styled engaged by the authority, difference in opinion with Director Zainab Jallow and the political interference in his decision.
In another note, since its inception, the authority has never faced any committee of the National Assembly. Apparently, last month members of the select committee on Health wrote a letter to DG Zainab Jallow requesting her to submit the Authority’s activity report and financial statement from year 2017 to 2019.Unfortunately, due to her pride, she refused to respond to the request of the lawmakers.
Seemingly, the Financial Director Mr Muhammed Juwara a certified Financial Accountant with over 10 years of managerial experience also resigned from his position sometime in last month due to DG Jallow’s behavior, inability and disregard for rules and procedure.
