The absconded Gambia Experience passengers, who were quarantined at the Golden Beach hotel have started speaking out, Freedom Newspaper can report. One of them is Zall Fall. Fall is a Senegalese national living in Manchester, in the United Kingdom. He was among the passengers quarantined.
Fall said they were locked into an airport bus (Coach) for close to forty minutes before they were taken to a quarantined hotel called Golden Beach. Fall said the decayed hotel lacks basic sanitary utensils. Fall even did not bother to enter the room he was allocated. He said the hotel restrooms lack water, and sanitary conditions were appalling. Electricity was also not stable at the hotel, he said
Fall couldn’t fly direct to Senegal. His home government had suspended foreign flights because of the Coronavirus. He decided to fly through The Gambia, hoping that he could travel by land upon landing in The Gambia.
There were 31 passengers in The Gambia Experience flight. Three of the passengers were Senegalese nationals. There was also one Sierra Leonean lady, with a sick child. Three European nationals were also among the quarantined passengers. Two of them were ladies. The other passengers were Gambian nationals.
The Gambian Experience flight crew were hosted at a different hotel. They were never quarantined at the Golden Beach hotel, according to Fall.
Fall and the other passengers had their body temperature checked upon landing at the airport. They refused to turn in their passports to the Immigration officers. The passengers traveled to the Golden Beach quarantined site with their passports.
“We were told to handover our passports, but we refused. They later let us go,” Fall said.
Fall is of the view that The Gambian government is not interested in providing good quarantine facilities to travelers. “ I think The Gambian government is only interested in eating the World Health Organization (WHO) money. That hotel is a mess. I do not think that hotel has been in operation for the past ten years. It is not a clean hotel. There is no water in the toilets. I did not see any hand sanitizer in that hotel,” Fall claimed.
Fall describes the Golden Hotel as a decayed hotel. He says it was inhumane for the Barrow government to quarantine passengers in that hotel.
Fall said the Golden Beach hotel gate was later broken by the angry quarantined passengers. He decided to join the other passengers to flee the site.
Fall is currently being hosted by his family in The Gambia. “I want to get tested before proceeding to Senegal. I will visit the MRC tomorrow to see if they could test me,” he said.
According to Fall, the handling Department of the airport allegedly told them that they never knew that the flight was coming with passengers. Fall couldn’t believe what he was told.
He also said there were handicap passengers quarantined. “Some of the passengers were handicaps. They deserve special treatment. We were told that the Health Minister or an official of the government was going to meet us at the hotel, but we haven’t seen the Health Minister or any government official,” Fall said.
Tourism and Health Ministry officials couldn’t be reached for comment on Fall’s allegations.
