The general public is hereby informed that following the President’s statement on 18 March 2020 regarding the Coronavirus pandemic around the world, as declared by the WHO, a Proclamation was issued and published in the Gazette on the same day pursuant to Section 34(1) (b) of the 1997 Constitution, declaring that a situation exists in The Gambia which if it is allowed to continue, may lead to a state of public emergency.

Furthermore, pursuant to Section 34(2) of the 1997 Constitution, and considering that the National Assembly is not currently in session, the said Declaration shall last for an initial period of 21 days from 18 March 2020.

The public is strongly encouraged to cooperate fully with State authorities particularly medical personnel and to follow their advice as the country prepares itself to deal with the potential serious consequences of the pandemic.
