Gambia’s Justice Minister Abubcarr Tambadou has reportedly asked The Gambian police to press rape charges against Melvin Roberts, the Foreign Ministry Deputy Permanent Secretary, who was accused of rape by multiple women, Freedom Newspaper has been reliably informed. Roberts has denied the rape allegations against him.
The police were said to have constituted a panel to investigate the rape allegations against Melvin Roberts. The police investigations had lasted for seven months.
The police later presented its case file against Melvin Roberts to AG Tambadou for Tambadou to give them a legal opinion on the matter. But Tambadou has ruled that Roberts should have his day in court. That he should be charged.
The medical report of the three women accusers of Roberts was also included in the police case file.
This medium was forwarded some paperwork purportedly coming from the police investigations. There was no official letter head or signature to confirm the veracity of the documents.
Melvin Roberts was in the UK studying when some women came out and accused him of rape. The AG Chambers open a hotline to probe the allegations. It was reported that he was wanted by the police. He recently visited The Gambia without been arrested.
Melvin Roberts is not willing to comment on the matter at this time. His lawyer is handling his case for him.
